Gstar Subic in the Philippines Successfully Launches Its First N-Type High-Efficiency Module
Gstar Subic Launches First N-Type High-Efficiency Module
On May 12, 2025, Gstar Subic celebrated a significant achievement with the successful launch of its first N-Type high-efficiency solar module at its production plant in the Philippines. This event marks the official operational commencement of the factory and heralds a new era in solar manufacturing in the region, highlighting Gstar's commitment to the photovoltaic industry and its capabilities in producing efficient and reliable solar modules.
A Leap in Solar Technology
The inaugural module from Gstar Subic features cutting-edge N-type solar cells measuring 183.75 mm arranged in a bifacial double glass format of 72 cells. This design incorporates several advanced technologies, including non-destructive laser tracing, Smart Multi-Busbar (SMBB) technology, and high-density encapsulation. By minimizing the spacing between cells and maximizing the active area, this module achieves a remarkable maximum power output of 595 W with a conversion efficiency of 23.03%. Enhanced bifaciality, a lower temperature coefficient, and superior low-light performance place it among the top performers in the industry.
Designed for commercial and industrial applications, as well as large-scale power plants and diverse PV+ scenarios, this module offers high energy generation potential and lower Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), thereby addressing the rising global demand for high-power solar modules.
Automation and Efficiency in Production
Notably, the production processes at Gstar's facility are entirely automated. During the design phase, factors such as safety, stability, intelligence, and efficiency were meticulously addressed. Following a thorough optimization process, the factory emerged as an intelligent, integrated manufacturing hub that boasts high security, automation, energy efficiency, and strong compatibility. Importantly, the facility allows for flexible switching between different module types, maintaining high production levels and reducing costs, thus ensuring large-scale production of high-efficiency modules.
A New Benchmark for Filipino Photovoltaics
Gstar's commitment to project execution and operational efficiency is evident with the completed construction of the manufacturing base. The first phase involved producing 1 GW of modules and 1.5 GW of cells, with plans underway to accelerate the second phase, targeting an additional 2 GW of modules. This progression aims to establish a premier and reliable center for the solar industry in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
The factory has attained key international certifications, including ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management, and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety, ensuring global operational standards. Additionally, Gstar is actively pursuing the registration of the D-U-N-S® Number to bolster its international credibility, supply chain transparency, and corporate reputation.
Mass Production on the Horizon
Mass production is slated to commence on May 18, 2025, which is anticipated to close the manufacturing gap for photovoltaic modules in the Philippines and introduce advanced production capabilities that will enhance the local solar industry. This development will also provide a more diversified option for the global supply chain.
Growing Global Competitiveness
As an emerging market, the Philippines is witnessing steady growth in its installed solar capacity. The Philippine Energy Plan 2020-2040 aims to boost the country's renewable energy share to over 35% by 2030 and over 50% by 2040. The establishment and operation of Gstar's factory will significantly contribute to achieving these ambitious targets.
Gstar employs a global strategic design model dubbed '1+N', which encompasses a network of manufacturing plants and service centers. Its site selection strategy aligns closely with local market needs and long-term export business considerations. Today, Gstar's operations span the U.S., India, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, the UAE, and Egypt. The successful launch in the Philippines represents another milestone in Gstar's global presence, further solidifying its industrial design and enhancing competitiveness in the global solar market.
Participation in Upcoming Solar Events
In addition to accelerating local manufacturing, Gstar is actively deepening collaboration with global partners. At the upcoming Solar Storage Live Philippines event on May 19-20, Gstar will showcase its complete photovoltaic supply chain and system solutions at booth 1-AA29, including silicon bars, wafers, cells, structures, modules, and energy storage systems. Industry experts, partners, and customers are invited to discuss the latest trends and developmental opportunities.
