TRANBI Expands Its Role in Business Succession Support
In a significant development for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Tokyo area, TRANBI, an M&A matching platform, has been selected to support the new business succession initiative led by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The initiative, known as the ‘Regional Financial Institutions' Business Succession Network Building Support Project’, is being implemented in collaboration with the Tokyo Credit Union Association and the Tokyo Cooperative Association.
The Role of TRANBI in Business Succession
TRANBI, established in 2016 and headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, operates a matching platform dedicated to business transitions and M&A activities. As part of this new initiative, TRANBI will provide a specialized matching agent service, with dedicated agents assisting business owners throughout the process—from identifying potential partners to negotiating deals. This tailored approach aims to alleviate concerns experienced by many owners, such as navigating online platforms or understanding fees associated with M&A transactions.
Comprehensive Support Services
The dedicated agents at TRANBI will support business owners by conducting company valuations, preparing business summaries, listing opportunities on the TRANBI platform, and investigating potential buyers' creditworthiness. Notably, owners will not need to engage with the platform directly; TRANBI’s agents will manage all online interactions on their behalf.
Importantly, TRANBI operates on a success-fee basis, meaning that business owners incur no costs until their transaction is successfully completed. This financial model significantly lowers the barriers for SMEs looking to explore the M&A process.
Extensive Matching Capabilities
With over 230,000 registered members on the TRANBI platform and a history of more than 2,400 completed M&A transactions, TRANBI offers a robust network that connects sellers with interested buyers across Japan. By leveraging the existing relationships that local financial institutions have with SMEs and integrating TRANBI's online matching capabilities, the initiative aims to facilitate a smoother transition for businesses facing succession challenges.
Support from Tokyo Government Incentives
As a part of this program, businesses that register with TRANBI can receive a financial incentive of 100,000 yen. Additionally, transaction fees incurred during the M&A process may qualify for subsidies from the Tokyo government, covering up to 200,000 yen, further supporting owners in their transition journey. TRANBI will assist businesses in completing necessary paperwork and navigating the incentives provided by the Tokyo government.
Importance of the Initiative
With Japan’s aging population leading to a growing number of business owners without successors, the demand for effective business succession solutions has surged. This initiative reflects a broader understanding of the necessity for third-party successions and the unique challenges that come with it. Many owners remain uncertain about how to proceed with succession planning, and TRANBI aims to bridge that gap by providing professional support and resources.
The collaboration between TRANBI and local financial institutions is critical in maintaining not only the businesses but also the jobs they support in Tokyo. By facilitating dialogues between potential sellers and buyers, this initiative hopes to maintain economic stability in the region.
About TRANBI
Launched in 2011, TRANBI has from the outset dedicated itself to ensuring equitable access to M&A opportunities for businesses of all sizes, striving to create an environment where anyone can pursue M&A transactions. The platform is structured to accommodate the needs of sellers seeking anonymity and buyers searching for suitable business matches across varied criteria.
Collaborating with financial institutions and local governments, TRANBI emphasizes supporting small-scale M&As, particularly for those businesses struggling with succession issues. The platform transitioned to a subscription-based fee model in 2021, making it easier for smaller businesses to access these essential services.
In 2025, TRANBI anticipates increasing its user base to over 200,000 as more entrepreneurs recognize the platform's value. This growth reflects the essential role TRANBI plays in fostering a collaborative ecosystem for business transitions, raising awareness about M&A, and potentially redefining the landscape of business ownership in Japan.
