Sega's Commitment to STEM Education for Girls
Sega, the renowned gaming company headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, is proudly participating in the initiative 'Girls Meet STEM in TOKYO'. This innovative program provides middle and high school girls residing or studying in Tokyo with hands-on experiences in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. The program aims to inspire and encourage young women to consider careers in STEM, which remains an area where gender disparity is prevalent.
The highlight of this initiative is an office tour scheduled for July 24, 2025. Registration for these experiences begins on May 21, 2025. During the tour, participants will engage in a programming workshop using Sega's popular action puzzle game,
Puyo Puyo, and have the opportunity to participate in discussions with female employees involved in game development. This not only offers valuable insights into the gaming industry but also serves as a source of inspiration and empowerment for the attending students.
Since 2022, Tokyo has been implementing office tours focused on increasing female participation in STEM fields. To accelerate this effort, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has collaborated with the Yamada Shintaro D&I Foundation this year. This partnership supports a larger program enabling over 50 companies, including Sega, to facilitate hands-on experiences in STEM alongside opportunities to meet female role models in various industries.
