Tohoku University and Posen Corporation Unite for AI-Powered Medical Research

Posen Corporation and Tohoku University: Pioneering AI in Healthcare

Recently, Posen Corporation, led by President Atsushi Kubota and based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, has entered into a joint research agreement with Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine, headed by Director Naoto Ishii, located in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. This partnership is set to explore the potential of using foot pressure and skeletal data combined with AI technology to assess physical functions more accurately.

The Importance of Objective Assessment in Medical Care

In the healthcare and medical sector, the need for objectively and quantitatively understanding the state of physical functions has become increasingly vital. Traditional assessments of physical function often rely heavily on the evaluator's experience and subjective judgment, leading to concerns about reproducibility and standardization. This collaborative research aims to tackle these challenges by integrating various data types, including foot pressure measurements, skeletal data, X-rays, and MRI images, allowing for a more comprehensive understanding of physical conditions and changes.

Collaborative Research Framework

The research is being conducted in collaboration with a team led by Professor Yoshikazu Okamoto from Tohoku University's Department of Radiology, who is also the coordinator for the university's Clinical AI program aimed at fostering medical AI talent. The primary focus of this research is to develop analytical methods to quantitatively evaluate the state and changes in physical functions, starting predominantly with the validation of foot pressure measurement data.
