Tokyo's Deep Tech Initiative

To further strengthen the ecosystem in Tokyo and Japan, nurturing startups in high-potential deep tech sectors like life sciences, artificial intelligence, and robotics is paramount. The demand for innovation hubs that feature accessible research and development environments, including laboratory functionalities, has never been greater.

In response to this need, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is launching an initiative to develop innovation hubs that are well-equipped to support deep tech startups by utilizing the existing networks and capabilities of TIB. As part of this effort, the government is actively seeking private sector collaborators who can contribute to establishing these essential innovation facilities.

The initiative invites private businesses to develop innovation hubs that incorporate robust support functions tailored to the unique needs of deep tech startups. Project Scheme

• - Number of Expected Selections: Approximately two
• - Maximum Subsidy Amount and Rate: Up to 700 million yen per project, covering up to 50% of the eligible costs related to the establishment of the innovation hub.
• - Subsidy Duration: From the date of grant decision until March 31, 2027.
• - Key Selection Criteria:

- The proposed innovation hub should significantly contribute to the growth of deep tech startups.
- It should aim to enhance the Tokyo-Japan ecosystem, with TIB serving as a central connecting point.

• - Start of Recruitment: Thursday, June 5, 2025
• - Submission Deadline for Application Documents: Wednesday, July 23, 2025
• - Expected Grant Decision: Early October 2025
