T2, a Tokyo-based company focused on leveraging autonomous driving technology to support Japan's logistics sector, has successfully raised approximately 5 billion yen in its Series B funding round. This was achieved through the first closing of the round, with investments from 11 firms, bringing the total capital raised to over 16.5 billion yen.
As part of its vision to address the anticipated severe shortage of truck drivers in the future—a challenge known as the '2024 Logistics Problem'—T2 aims to introduce Level 4 autonomous trucks for trunk transportation by FY2027. In preparation for this, the company has been conducting demonstrations using its self-developed Level 2 autonomous trucks since 2024, transporting goods for over 50 partner companies. By summer 2025, T2 plans to commercialize regular transportation services for these partners following successful trials, with the number of users already expanding to 23 companies.
To facilitate Level 4 trunk transportation, T2 is also advancing the establishment of essential infrastructure. The company plans to create three transitional hubs, called Transgates, located near highway interchanges in Ayase City, Kanagawa, and Kobe and Nishinomiya Cities, Hyogo, to enable seamless switching between unmanned driving on highways and human-operated driving on regular roads. This effort marks T2 as the first domestic logistics provider to set up such facilities, with the anticipated opening date in the spring of 2026.
Meanwhile, T2's autonomous driving technology has made remarkable strides. In March 2026, T2 successfully demonstrated a Level 2 autonomous truck completing a 500 km stretch of the main expressway connecting the Kanto and Kansai regions without requiring any driver intervention. Furthermore, in May 2026, the company pioneered the technology to navigate highway toll booths, solidifying its pathway to Level 4 operation between the Transgates in Kanto and Kansai.
With the recent completion of its Series B first close, T2 is planning additional closings within FY2026, where it aims to use the newly acquired funds to accelerate its business and technological development efforts towards achieving Level 4 autonomous truck operations.
T2's CEO, Masato Kumabe, expressed deep gratitude to the new investors and highlighted the company’s commitment to leveraging autonomous technology to tackle challenges in Japan's logistics landscape. He stated, “We are honored to collaborate with esteemed partners across various industries, and we are dedicated to driving both business and technology development to fulfill our vision.”
