Okayama University Soccer Team Receives Annual Gift of Soccer Balls from Alumni

Alumni Support for Current Soccer Players at Okayama University

On December 23, 2025, Okayama University, located in Okayama City, received a generous donation from three alumni of its soccer club. The former players, who joined the club in 1967, presented five soccer balls to the current team members as part of a tradition that has continued for five years. This annual event coincides with the alumni gathering and aims to encourage the current players.

The donation event took place after the alumni had the opportunity to observe the current team in practice. Following the practice session, the former players shared words of encouragement and support for the current roster. In turn, the current players introduced themselves by sharing their high school backgrounds, academic departments, and positions on the soccer team, fostering a spirit of connection and camaraderie between generations.

One of the key alumni present during the donation was Tomiyoshi Kurita, who served as the captain during his time on the team and graduated in 1971 with a degree in literature. He remarked, "Even though we were teammates long ago, we are still connected in this special way. The bonds formed through shared struggles with friends are invaluable, and I hope you all create such connections through soccer."

This annual gesture of support not only symbolizes the lasting ties between the alumni and the current players but also highlights the ongoing commitment to nurturing talent and passion for the sport at Okayama University. The alumni expressed their gratitude for the chance to engage with the current team and extend their encouragement to the young athletes pursuing their own football dreams.
