CIC Japan and Partners Sign MOU to Revolutionize Future Medical Innovations

A New Partnership for Future Medical Innovation

On July 3, 2026, CIC Japan, in collaboration with several prominent organizations including Japan Life Insurance, Osaka Prefecture, and the Future Medical Promotion Organization, held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The event took place at WHX Osaka, specifically in the conference room of Intex Osaka, Hall 6B. This collaboration aims to support the advancement of future medical innovations and initiatives.

Leaders from various sectors, including healthcare, government, and innovation organizations, congregated at the event, symbolizing the launch of a new partnership from Osaka to the world. The ceremony began with an opening address by Yoshiki Sawa, the Chairman of the Future Medical Promotion Organization, who expressed his excitement about the collaborative efforts.

"By joining forces with Japan Life, CIC, and Osaka Prefecture, I'm excited to see the remarkable innovations we can create. Our organization holds the world’s only approved iPS cell heart treatment technologies, and to bring these to fruition, we need an ecosystem for social implementation of medicine that Japan has been lacking," Sawa stated.

He further emphasized the role of the newly established 'O-Nexus' at Nakanoshima Cross as a robust incubator that aims to foster startups and venture companies with global standards. O-Nexus promises to convert accumulated data and knowledge into research, generating a loop that returns its findings to the medical field and society—essentially saving lives through innovative healthcare advancements from Nakanoshima.

Following Sawa’s address, President of Japan Life Insurance, Tomoji Asahi, delivered a speech and presentation. He remarked on the significance of establishing new connections in Osaka, where the company was founded.

"Strong collaboration among government, industry, and academia is essential for the social implementation of healthcare and future advancements. We have carefully prepared a diverse range of displays that allow attendees to experience our commitment as a 'multifaceted source of reassurance'. Together, we aim to build a society where everyone can live securely and confidently,” Asahi emphasized.

During his presentation, Asahi outlined the company's vision centered on providing a wide spectrum of health and safety solutions, emphasizing the necessity of linking these innovative efforts with practical social implementations.

Next, CIC Japan’s CEO, Denise Medrenka, and Governor of Osaka Prefecture, Hirofumi Yoshimura, took the stage to share their insights. Medrenka highlighted the MOU as a significant milestone achieved through collective efforts.

"The establishment of O-Nexus will serve as a catalyst for a 'living ecosystem' aimed at creating and nurturing startups in the life sciences sector. We will leverage CIC's global network to accelerate the international expansion of Osaka and Kansai, positioning O-Nexus as a gateway to the world,” Medrenka stated, expressing confidence that Japan will become a global leader in the life sciences field.

Governor Yoshimura remarked on the exhibition aligned with the Osaka-Kansai Expo's theme of “Designing a Future Society Where Life Shines,” emphasizing the future implementation and validation of these concepts.

"I am delighted to sign this MOU today together with Japan Life, Professor Sawa, and the team from CIC, to build an ecosystem for innovation in the life sciences sector. Our goal is to promote the industrialization of future medicine at Nakanoshima Cross, contributing to the health and prosperity of people in Japan and worldwide,” Yoshimura said.

The MOU signing concluded the day's presentations, solidifying the agreement between the four parties to establish a base for future medical industrialization and innovation creation. This partnership aims to enhance collaboration between the public and private sectors and academia, ultimately supporting the growth of startups and innovation in the life sciences through the O-Nexus hub.
