Linough's Smart Delivery Service Achieves a Major Milestone

In an impressive advancement for delivery innovation, Linough, based in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, has announced that its flagship service, Smart Delivery, has now been integrated into over 20,000 residential units across Japan. This pioneering service aims to enhance convenience for residents of apartment complexes with autolock systems by allowing certified delivery personnel to temporarily unlock communal entrances and securely leave packages at designated spots, even when recipients are absent.

Revolutionizing Package Deliveries

Since its launch in 2021, Linough's Smart Delivery system has executed an estimated 65,000 unlock operations, unlocking doors that might have otherwise resulted in missed deliveries. By successfully facilitating these deliveries, the service has significantly contributed to a reduction of around 14,300 hours of labor in logistics operations. This is equivalent to the daily workload of approximately 1,800 delivery drivers. Moreover, the reduction in unnecessary delivery trips has led to a decrease in CO2 emissions by about 30.6 tons, comparable to the amount absorbed by approximately 3,477 cedar trees over a year. This leap forward extends beyond mere numbers and emphasizes Linough's commitment to creating a sustainable society.

Addressing Societal Challenges

The growth of the e-commerce market has led to an estimated annual total of 5 billion parcel deliveries in Japan. With the anticipated logistic burdens of the '2024 Problem' looming, the challenges of high re-delivery rates and the associated greenhouse gas emissions have escalated into pressing social concerns. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has set ambitious objectives, aiming to increase the percentage of non-contact parcel deliveries from 25.6% in February 2025 to around 50% by the fiscal year ending in 2030. The Smart Delivery service aligns with these goals, effectively addressing the challenges posed by last-mile logistics.

A survey conducted by Linough indicates that around 90% of residents in autolock-enabled apartments are eager to cooperate in reducing re-delivery issues. This growing awareness among consumers has played a significant role in the expansion of Smart Delivery's adoption.

With around 320,000 autolock-equipped apartments nationwide, Linough sees substantial growth potential in this sector.
