In a revealing study conducted by Simtops Co., Ltd., which operates the widely acclaimed 'i-Reporter' platform for digitizing on-site paperwork, a comparison was made between 63 members of its user community, the 'On-Site Report Improvement Club,' and 111 DX practitioners in the wider manufacturing sector in Japan.

The results highlighted a substantial disparity in digitalization efforts, with community members actively practicing core areas of on-site DX, such as the recording and management of manufacturing and production reports, at rates approximately two to 2.5 times higher than their counterparts in general companies. The community members exhibited marked efficacy across nearly all metrics, consistently outperforming the general company respondents.

Interestingly, only a modest 6.3% of community members believed that their organization was ahead of peers in DX initiatives, compared to 64.9% among general companies. This could indicate a tendency among community participants, who frequently engage with case studies from other companies, to set higher benchmarks for self-evaluation.

Launched in December 2023, the 'On-Site Report Improvement Club' aims to create a collaborative space for all 'i-Reporter' users to connect, share knowledge, and inspire one another. Daily activities include consultations on challenges, sharing of utilization know-how and success stories, real-world events, and suggestions for product improvements.

Supported by the largest share of the domestic market with 4,500 implementing companies and 220,000 users, the 'i-Reporter' community particularly draws those with a strong commitment to DX, showcasing active, pragmatic engagement with shared knowledge and experiences. When asked about their current endeavors in digitalization, a striking difference emerged. While 71.4% of community members reported undertaking efforts in recording and managing manufacturing reports, only 36.0% of general company representatives could say the same. In the realm of data visualization and dashboarding, the figures were 52.4% for community members versus 20.7% for general companies—a disparity of nearly 2.5 times. Despite exceeding general companies in practice and impact, only 6.3% of community members viewed themselves as ahead in DX compared to their industry peers.
