Kotoomi no Kai's 20th Anniversary Dance Performance
On August 24, 2025, the Kotoomi no Kai will host a special dance performance to celebrate its 20th anniversary at the Tsutsuji Hall in Kitai, Tokyo. This exceptional event showcases the beauty of Japanese traditional dance, along with contemporary pieces that appeal to a wide audience.
Founded by renowned Nihon Buyo dancer Kotoomi Hanayagi, Kotoomi no Kai has come a long way in promoting the art of Japanese dance. The upcoming performance will not only celebrate this milestone but also feature a special segment dedicated to popularizing Nihon Buyo, themed "Inori" (Prayer), which reflects the deeper values of harmony and connection through dance.
The event will kick off with a guest performance by Yoshinobu Gojo, featuring the traditional piece "Hagoromo Sanbansō". Following this, notable performances from Tachibana Shijuro and Hanayagi Kotoi will highlight the beauty of Japanese storytelling through movement. Closing the event, Kotoomi Hanayagi will perform "Shinkyoku Urashima", a piece that has captivated audiences for decades.
In addition to the traditional Nihon Buyo pieces, the dance live performance will include contemporary collaborations. Among the highlights is a rendition of Maurice Ravel's famous composition "Boléro", performed in collaboration with the talented traditional musicians led by Roho Fujisha, and a unique Japanese dance review, "Fukagawa Mambo", featuring the fourth-generation Ichikawa Taisaburo.
