Bulat Utemuratov Foundation Takes a Stand for Autism at the UN

Bulat Utemuratov Foundation Joins the Global Autism Advocacy Coalition

In a significant move for global autism advocacy, the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation has officially joined the Global Autism Advocacy Coalition, a newly formed entity launched at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. This coalition aims to unite experts from various fields, including health and education, as well as international policymakers, to enhance the quality of life and inclusion for individuals with autism across the globe.

The coalition has received support from well-renowned organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Autism Speaks, and the Qatar Foundation. Its primary goal is to consolidate efforts from governments, international bodies, and non-profits to push for autism rights, improve policies, conduct relevant research, and strengthen advocacy capabilities worldwide.

The launch event was marked by the presence of health ministers from nations around the world, alongside top representatives from significant international organizations and foundations focused on health and education. The involvement of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation highlights Kazakhstan’s increasing role in global health and inclusivity initiatives.

As part of its commitment, the foundation also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN agency responsible for migration issues. This agreement outlines collaborative efforts to assist migrant families raising children with autism, develop inclusive educational and healthcare programs, and promote knowledge exchange on autism support services.

Ainur Karbozova, CEO of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, expressed the importance of these developments, stating, "For over a decade, the Foundation has implemented the national programme 'Autism. One World for All,' helping children with autism and their families throughout Kazakhstan. Joining the Global Autism Advocacy Coalition and partnering with the IOM allows us to share Kazakhstan's experiences internationally and facilitate the creation of a more equitable and inclusive society across the globe."

Since 2015, the foundation has opened 13 Autism Centers across 12 cities in Kazakhstan under its Asyl Miras programme. These centers comply with international standards, providing free, evidence-based behavioral programs, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Over 25,000 children and families have benefitted from these services to date, showcasing the foundation's commitment to improving the conditions for those affected by autism.

By participating in international platforms like the Global Autism Advocacy Coalition and forming new partnerships with respected institutions, the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation aims to strengthen its advocacy for autism, sharing best practices, and elevating the global conversation around autism support and resources. The foundation's efforts could serve as a model for other nations, enabling a more collaborative approach towards autism advocacy.

Joining such coalitions and establishing cooperative agreements not only empowers the foundation but also paves the way for a more inclusive global society that recognizes and supports the rights and needs of individuals with autism. The implications of this collaboration could be far-reaching, affecting numerous lives and leading to greater awareness and understanding of autism on a worldwide scale.

As the foundation works tirelessly to enhance its impact, it stands as a testament to the power of collective action in addressing complex social issues and fostering an environment of acceptance and support for marginalized communities. With these initiatives, the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation prepares to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many, both locally in Kazakhstan and on an international level.
