Grande Abraço Charity Concert: Supporting Children with Foreign Roots Through Music

Grande Abraço Charity Concert: Music for a Better Future

The Grande Abraço Charity Concert, a passionate initiative that focuses on supporting children from foreign roots in Japan, is set to take place on May 31, 2025, at 1:30 PM. This event, held every spring since 2023, aims to open doors for these children through Japanese language education, cultural awareness, multicultural coexistence, and next-generation development.

The name "Grande Abraço" means "big hug" in Portuguese, reflecting the deep connection the organizers have with Brazil, which inspired the creation of this event. The concert intends to provide a warm embrace of love and support for all children striving to learn Japanese, encouraging them as they navigate their educational journeys.

Event Highlights

The concert will feature the performances of two vibrant bands:
1. Música sem Fronteiras - A project dedicated to facilitating cross-cultural exchange and social learning through music for children and youth in the Brazilian community in Japan. With a repertoire that spans Brazilian genres, classical, Latin music, and international pop, Música sem Fronteiras offers a rich musical experience.
2. Machi-da Gakudan - Based in Machida City, this entertainment group combines professional and amateur performers to create a diverse array of performances rooted in percussion. Audiences can expect an exhilarating showcase of talent and creativity from this collective.

Admission Details

The concert is free to attend, but those who wish to support the cause can choose to make a donation through a designated application form. All funds raised will directly benefit our scholarship program, Mirai-kko Project, which offers high-quality Japanese language lessons to children in need.

The Importance of Supporting Japanese Language Education

Imagine being a child who suddenly learns you will be attending a school in a foreign country, only to discover that there are no nearby resources to help you learn the language. Unfortunately, thousands of children in Japan face this reality. Currently, around 58,000 children nationwide require support in mastering the Japanese language, and learning conditions vary greatly between schools. Some children may find themselves sitting through classes without understanding what's being taught.

Moreover, it is estimated that gaining the proficiency necessary for academic success can take these children five to seven years, during which many may struggle without appropriate guidance. Economic barriers often prevent families from affording language classes, and the lack of educational facilities further exacerbates the issue. The Grande Abraço concert seeks to raise awareness and funds to support these children and provide them with the opportunities they deserve.
