AT&T and Boldyn Networks Unveil 5G Connectivity on MTA's G Line
In an exciting development for commuters in New York City, AT&T has teamed up with Boldyn Networks to launch 5G cellular service in the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) G train line. This new service, which covers the tunnel segments between Court Square station in Long Island City and Bedford-Nostrand Avenue station in Brooklyn, marks a significant step in enhancing connectivity within the subway system.
A Major Milestone for Subway Connectivity
This activation is part of a broader commitment by AT&T and Boldyn to equip the entire NYC Subway system with high-speed connectivity. Just recently, AT&T also added service to the Joralemon Street tunnel, catering to the 4 and 5 train lines between Bowling Green and Borough Hall stations. The swift rollout of cellular service highlights the effective collaboration between AT&T, Boldyn Networks, and the MTA, aiming to provide seamless connectivity for subway riders.
John Emra, President of AT&T's Atlantic Region, stated, "Every new section we light up brings us closer to a fully connected New York. By working closely with Boldyn Networks and the MTA, we’re helping ensure reliable, high-speed 5G is part of the everyday transit experience for New Yorkers. We’re proud to be the first and only carrier to deliver that enhanced experience to the G line."
Enhancing Daily Life for Commuters
Ken Ranger, Senior Vice President of Transit Operations at Boldyn Networks, described the importance of this project, saying, "Progress like this happens through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to the people of New York. We’re proud to continue our work with the MTA and AT&T to bring high-speed connectivity to the G line. These milestones represent more than infrastructure; they’re about improving daily life for riders and creating a smarter, more connected city."
Boldyn’s network expansion initiative aims to extend cellular coverage across all 418 miles of subway tunnels in New York City. Currently, riders on the 42nd St. Shuttle and Canarsie tunnel, which serves the L train line, can also enjoy cell service within underground stations. This advancement signifies a remarkable improvement in the user experience for New York City subway users.
