Expanding PASSTO Resource Circulation Services for Sustainable Communities

Escon Group Expands PASSTO Resource Circulation Services

The Escon Group, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, and led by President Takatoshi Ito, is advancing its sustainability initiatives by expanding the implementation of the resource circulation service "PASSTO" across its commercial facilities nationwide. This service, managed by ECOMMIT, focuses on collecting unwanted clothing and miscellaneous items and facilitating their reuse and recycling to promote resource circulation.

Key Points of the Initiative

  • - Promoting Sustainable Management: Escon is prioritizing waste reduction and the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) as significant challenges in its commitment to reducing environmental impact.
  • - Leveraging Synergies: The company is supporting the business collaboration between its parent company, Chubu Electric Power Company, and ECOMMIT to promote community development centered around resource circulation.
  • - Expansion of Facilities: In addition to "tonarie Yokkaichi" and "tonarie Fujimino," PASSTO has now been introduced at the "Oh!Me Otsu Terrace" commercial facility in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture.

Background of the Development

Escon Group operates under the philosophy of "Ideal to Real", aiming to actualize sustainable management. Addressing the reduction of waste generation and ensuring proper waste processing are considered vital environmental challenges. The company is committed to contributing to a decarbonized and circular society by promoting the 3Rs through its business initiatives.

By agreeing with the collaboration between Chubu Electric Power and ECOMMIT, Escon is autonomously promoting resource-circulating community development, maximizing group synergies.

Recent Expansion of PASSTO

The introduction of PASSTO at the new facility, "Oh!Me Otsu Terrace," marks the third location following the successful trials at "tonarie Yokkaichi" and "tonarie Fujimino." The positive outcomes from the first two installations motivated the expansion of this service to enhance community engagement in environmental contributions.

The initiative represents a crucial step towards creating an eco-friendly lifestyle where residents can easily participate in sustainable practices right in their neighborhoods.

PASSTO's Mission

The term "PASSTO" is a contraction of "PASS TO" that embodies the idea of passing resources to the next person and connecting to the future. PASSTO serves as a portal for resource circulation, handling the entire process from collection and sorting to reactivation through reuse and recycling. The service boasts an incredible reuse and recycling rate of approximately 98% for clothing, which significantly contributes to reducing CO2 emissions compared to simple incineration.

By fostering a society where resources are continuously circulated, PASSTO aims to build sustainable communities.
