SAMBAZON® Marks 25 Years of Sustainable Açaí Harvesting in 2025 Impact Report

Celebrating 25 Years of Direct Trade: SAMBAZON® Açaí 2025 Impact Report

SAMBAZON®, the premier organic açaí company, has recently unveiled its 2025 Impact Report, commemorating a remarkable 25 years of direct trade with communities in the Brazilian Amazon. As the first certified organic açaí company, SAMBAZON's report offers an in-depth look at its sourcing, labor practices, and commitment to environmental responsibility under what they call "Palm to Palm"—signifying that full journey of açaí from the tree to the consumer's hand.

In the last quarter-century, SAMBAZON has sourced over 750 million pounds of certified organic and Fair Trade açaí, collaborating directly with 4,007 harvesting families. In 2025 alone, the company engaged with 1,159 harvesters across 350 communities in the Amazon region. This commitment to ethical sourcing and community engagement underscores SAMBAZON's dedication to sustainable business practices.

The Impact Report reveals that SAMBAZON directed more than $1.9 million from its Fair Trade Fund into developing community infrastructure such as schools, libraries, sports facilities, and health clinics both in Brazil and the United States. Such investments significantly contribute to the nutritional livelihoods of these regions, fostering a sense of community and supporting local economies.

One of the striking highlights of the report is SAMBAZON's impressive sustainability efforts. The company managed to divert 96.3% of its waste from landfills, transforming over 59 million pounds of açaí seeds into renewable biomass energy. Furthermore, SAMBAZON achieved a landmark by sourcing 99% of its operational electricity from renewable sources. This move not only reduced carbon emissions year-on-year by 5% but also showcased significant progress reflected in an improved Governance and Accountability rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), upgrading from 'C, Awareness Level' to 'B, Management Level' due to rigorous emissions tracking.

The report sheds light on the pressing concerns regarding rainforest conservation. The Amazon rainforest, spanning 2.6 million square miles across nine countries, has been drastically impacted, losing approximately one-fifth of its forest cover in the last four decades according to the World Wildlife Fund. However, the report also notes that deforestation in certain regions of the Amazon has declined by over 34% since 2023. Notably, SAMBAZON’s own research indicates that its Fair Trade-certified harvesting area of 117,000 acres sequesters an estimated 5.2 million metric tons of carbon, emphasizing that its direct-trade model encourages maintaining forest cover instead of converting land for alternative uses.

As Ryan Black, Co-Founder and CEO of SAMBAZON, put it, "Twenty-five years ago, we bet that doing good and doing well could be the same act. This report is our accounting of that bet—what worked, what didn't, and what we're doing differently going into our next 25 years." He further stated the importance of transparency and accountability, highlighting the report's role in affirming their commitment not only to harvesting communities but also to the rainforest they rely on.

Looking ahead, SAMBAZON plans to pursue Regenerative Organic Certification throughout its supply chain in the near future.
