INL Foundation and MicroNuclear Join Forces to Revolutionize Molten Salt Nuclear Battery Technology

In a groundbreaking collaboration, the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Foundation and MicroNuclear, LLC, are set to advance the development of MicroNuclear's Molten Salt Nuclear Battery (MsNB). This innovative compact reactor aims to offer reliable power and process heat, marking a significant leap in nuclear technology.

The agreement facilitates the critical next steps for the MsNB, which includes detailed engineering work, safety and licensing protocols, prototype manufacturing, and initial fission testing. The endeavor relies on the combined expertise of various partners, including EXP, Premier Technology, and Porter House, to ensure a successful pathway from concept to commercialization.

The MsNB is not just another energy solution; it's designed to be a compact, natural-circulation molten salt microreactor offering a host of benefits. It targets essential use cases such as supporting critical infrastructure, military operations, and isolated energy grids. Until now, traditional nuclear reactors have faced issues like scale, complexity, and waste disposal, but the MsNB promises to be a safe, emissions-free option, delivering around 20 MW of thermal energy per unit over an expected operational lifespan of 10 years.
