Penske Teamsters Celebrate Ratification of New Regional Contracts in Southern Regions

Penske Teamsters Reach New Milestones with Ratified Agreements

In a significant achievement for labor rights, the members of Teamsters Locals 79, 512, 528, 541, 618, and 769 have overwhelmingly ratified the Southcentral and Southeastern Regional Master Agreements. This move marks a pivotal moment for over 250 Teamsters spread across states like Florida, Georgia, and Missouri, as they secure contracts that promise better working conditions and benefits.

The newly established contracts span four years and include a groundbreaking 15% wage increase across the board. Beyond just pay raises, these agreements also ensure additional contributions from employers to the Teamsters 401(k) fund, enhancing the long-term financial security for the workforce. What's more, there will be no hikes in healthcare costs for the first two and a half years of the contract, a critical factor in today’s economic climate where healthcare expenses continue to soar.

Rocco Calo, Director of the Teamsters Industrial Trades Division, emphasized the vital role that Teamsters play within Penske. He remarked, "Penske doesn't run without the hard work of our members. This contract not only recognizes the importance of Teamsters at Penske but incentivizes other Penske workers nationwide to get what they deserve and join the Teamsters. We are proud to have secured such strong agreements for Penske Teamsters in the Southern Region."

Local unions will benefit not only from these master agreements but also from local supplemental agreements that contain provisions tailored to specific regions. However, not all unions were in complete agreement; Local 618 opted to reject their local addendum and aims to return to the bargaining table in August.

Chad Patton, a Penske Teamster and Local 79 steward based in Florida, expressed optimism and relief regarding the new contract. "This new contract is a big win for us and our families. Over the next four years, we’ve secured regular pay increases, maintained affordable health insurance, and even added a new paid holiday. In today's economy, it’s unheard of. This is a substantial win for us, and as Teamsters, we are committed to building a stronger future together."

Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents around 1.3 million hardworking individuals across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The organization’s commitment to improving the lives of laborers remains unwavering as they continue to advocate for fair wages, working conditions, and worker rights.

As labor movements gain momentum nationally, the Penske Teamsters’ success in ratifying these agreements sets a powerful precedent, reinforcing the notion that collective bargaining remains crucial in advocating for workers' rights across all industries.
