The DANCEALIVE event was born in 2005 as DANCE@LIVE, introducing the 1-on-1 battle format that has become a hallmark of street dance culture. Dancers compete face-to-face, improvising their moves according to music tracks known only to the DJ. The winner is determined by who accumulates the most votes from the judges—a simple yet electrifying rule set.

DANCEALIVE segments participants into six categories based on different dance styles. The general division, referred to as 4STYLES, includes HOUSE, BREAKING, HIPHOP, and ALL STYLES. Additionally, there are special categories for younger dancers, such as KIDS, for participants below middle school age, and RIZE, a crew battle exclusive to university students. Qualifying rounds for this highly competitive event occur across eight regions in Japan, with the goal of progressing to the grand finale in April.

The 20th anniversary of DANCEALIVE promises to be an extraordinary event, filled with special content and features. Notably, many previous champions have expressed their intent to participate, setting the stage for an exhilarating tournament that will determine the top dancers in Japan. The FINAL will honor the legacy of DANCEALIVE by inviting five champions from each genre as seed dancers, culminating in a premier 12-member showdown, consisting of seven winners from the qualifying events.
