Empowering Future Leaders Through Financial Literacy in Puerto Rico

PenFed Credit Union and Everfi's Financial Literacy Initiative

On April 9, 2026, PenFed Credit Union, in collaboration with Everfi, organized their sixth financial literacy event aimed at high school students in Puerto Rico. This time, Anita Otero Hernandez Specialized School of Fine Arts in Humacao served as the venue, where over 50 twelfth graders participated in an interactive learning session.

The event was part of a broader initiative to enhance financial literacy among the youth, with PenFed having already engaged more than 5,000 students in 46 schools across Puerto Rico. The focus of this engagement is the program "Tu Dinero, Tu Sueño" ("Your Money, Your Dreams"), a digital financial education curriculum developed by Everfi, aimed at equipping students with essential financial skills for their future.

Commitment to Future Leaders

James Schenck, President and CEO of PenFed, expressed the organization’s dedication to empowering Puerto Rico’s next generation. He stated, "We continue our commitment to investing in the development of future leaders on the island and appreciate the partnership of Everfi and Anita Otero Hernandez School as we advance financial literacy and support students in building a brighter future for themselves and their communities."

This sentiment underlines PenFed’s commitment over the past seven years, investing in the education and financial well-being of students without any cost to the schools. This includes providing access to tools and resources that teach students about managing savings and checking accounts, understanding credit, and making informed decisions regarding investments and higher education funding.
