Sungrow and Delta Capacity Forge Stronger Ties with New 1 GWh BESS Agreement at Energy Storage Summit
At the recent Energy Storage Summit held in London, two prominent players in the energy sector, Sungrow and Delta Capacity, announced a groundbreaking agreement that signifies a significant step in their collaborative journey. The duo signed a framework agreement for the deployment of a 1 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), focusing on Sungrow’s advanced PowerTitan 2.0 solution, with projects set to launch in 2026.
Sungrow, known globally for its excellence in PV inverters and energy storage systems, has solidified its position as a frontrunner in renewable energy technology. By agreeing on the substantial BESS project, Sungrow and Delta Capacity are set to boost Europe's energy transition while enhancing their operational capacities. Delta Capacity, founded in 2022 and based in Switzerland, is a developer recognized for its ambition to create a diverse portfolio of high-quality BESS assets across multiple European markets.
Patrik Hes, the founder and CEO of Delta Capacity, articulated the company’s mission to establish one of Europe’s premier BESS portfolios, aiming for a design focused on robustness, efficiency, and reliability. The decision to partner with Sungrow was both strategic and timely, given Sungrow's proven expertise in executing large-scale projects within tight timeframes while maintaining high quality. Hes believes that this agreement will elevate their objective of long-term asset ownership and operation, enabling Delta to effectively function across several regions, including Scandinavia and Central Europe.
Furthermore, James Li, the Vice President and Director of ESS at Sungrow Europe, echoed the significance of this partnership. He highlighted that the framework agreement not only strengthens their collaboration but also merges the cutting-edge technology of Sungrow's PowerTitan 2.0 with Delta's exceptional execution skills. Together, they are set to deliver projects that ensure reliability and high performance, thus supporting the broader European energy transition goals.
In light of current global climate objectives, the expansion of reliable energy storage solutions is paramount. The PowerTitan 2.0 system specifically offers a unique value proposition by reducing both the capital expenditures and operational costs associated with energy storage. Its innovative design, encompassing pre-assembled battery modules and power conversion systems, allows for smooth integration and drastically shortens installation times.
Sungrow's remarkable track record includes flagship projects such as the largest BESS facility in mainland Europe located in Belgium and another project in the UK. These projects collectively demonstrate their influential footprint in the renewable energy landscape.
As Delta Capacity ramps up operations, they currently have nearly 800 MWh under construction, with plans to increase capacity to 6 GWh by 2030. Their strategic approach involves not only developing cutting-edge BESS solutions but also ensuring projects are executed from start to finish, emphasizing procurement and commissioning.
This agreement marks an exciting new chapter for both companies, one that promises to enhance their operational capabilities and drive innovation in energy storage technology across Europe. As the world moves towards greener energy solutions, partnerships like these are essential for tackling the challenges and opportunities of today’s energy landscape. Sungrow and Delta Capacity are poised to lead this sector with their collaborative strength and commitment to fostering a sustainable future through advancements in energy storage technology.
