Kato Works Collaborates with Tokyo University for Innovative Engineering Education Program

Kato Works and Tokyo University: Shaping Future Engineers

In a remarkable initiative aimed at enhancing engineering education, Kato Works Co., Ltd. is collaborating with Tokyo University of Science to provide practical learning experiences for new students. Scheduled for April 8th, 2026, this unique program will welcome approximately 100 first-year students from the Faculty of Science and Technology to Kato Works' Ibaraki factory, where they can immerse themselves in the manufacturing environment of crane vehicles, Kato Works’ flagship products.

The Importance of Industry-Academia Collaboration

The growing demand for highly skilled engineers in Japan’s manufacturing sector has made it imperative to nurture science and engineering talent early on. By bridging the gap between academia and industry, this educational initiative offers students an invaluable opportunity to engage directly with the manufacturing process. This hands-on experience is critical as it not only enhances academic learning but also prepares students for real-world challenges in the engineering field.

Furthermore, as a company rooted in Ibaraki Prefecture, Kato Works feels a strong responsibility to communicate the importance and appeal of manufacturing to the next generation of engineers. The program symbolizes the company's commitment to local industry and its role in supporting the development of future technologies and solutions.

Details of the Lecture

The practical lecture will take place on April 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Kato Works Ibaraki Factory, located at:
5206 Moto-Kurihashi, Goka Town, Sarushima District, Ibaraki Prefecture.

During this time, the students will explore the factory, gaining insights into the production of rough terrain cranes and All Terrain cranes, which play a vital role in construction projects across Japan, including bridge building, architecture, and infrastructure development.

A Milestone in Educational Outreach

This initiative marks the first significant endeavor by Kato Works to host such a large group of educational institutions’ students at their factory, highlighting their commitment to educational outreach and community engagement. The factory tour and practical lessons will offer insights into the operational workflows and technologies involved in manufacturing cranes, fostering a better understanding of the technical skills required in the industry.
