Crowell & Moring Welcomes Joshua Robbins to Strengthen Health Care Litigation Team
Crowell & Moring Expands Litigation Team with Joshua Robbins
Crowell & Moring has announced a significant development in its ongoing expansion of health care litigation capabilities with the recent addition of Joshua Robbins, a highly skilled trial attorney, as a partner in its Orange County office. This move is aimed at bolstering the firm’s distinguished health care litigation group and positions it to handle complex cases involving health care fraud.
Robbins brings a wealth of courtroom experience to Crowell, having served both in the public sector as an assistant U.S. attorney and in private practice. He is recognized for managing high-stakes litigation for various sophisticated clients, including individuals in the health care, life sciences, and technology sectors.
His diverse expertise includes representing clients in cases associated with fraud allegations, unfair competition, and kickbacks. Robbins has a prolific track record, having led numerous trials to verdict and directed significant appeals in both civil and criminal litigation, covering essential areas such as antitrust and patent law.
In his new role at Crowell, Robbins will focus primarily on civil litigation and affirmative fraud recovery cases, specifically within the health care and life sciences domains. “We are excited to welcome Josh to our team. His extensive experience in trial law will greatly enhance our health care litigation capabilities,” stated Kent Goss, co-chair of Crowell’s Litigation Group. “As California remains a crucial market for health care innovation, Josh's skills are a strategic addition to meet the evolving legal needs of our clients in the area.”
Robbins’ hiring reflects Crowell's commitment to expanding its health care practice. The firm made headlines last year by increasing its resources in this sector, notably incorporating over 50 attorneys from another respected firm, Reed Smith, making it one of the largest health care practices in the nation. Additionally, first-chair trial attorney Jeff Gleason recently joined Crowell, further strengthening the team’s capacity to address complex fraud and recovery litigation.
Before joining Crowell, Robbins co-chaired the White Collar and Government Investigations practice group at Buchalter. His background includes a notable tenure as an assistant U.S. attorney in California’s Central District, where he led significant prosecutions, including a strenuously contested investigation involving health care fraud cases related to spinal surgeries at the Pacific Hospital of Long Beach.
Expressing his enthusiasm for joining Crowell, Robbins said, “Aligning with such a talented group of attorneys at Crowell is a remarkable opportunity. For those of us focused on providing innovative solutions to health care clients, becoming part of this dynamic team is a perfect fit. I have long respected the collaborative efforts of Crowell attorneys inside and outside the courtroom.”
An alumnus of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, Robbins has cemented his reputation as a legal expert. He served as a law clerk for the Honorable Stanley Marcus of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Actively involved in legal education and community service, he is the vice president of the Harvard Law School Association of Orange County and contributes to the Ninth Circuit Lawyer Representative program. Furthermore, he's a trial advocacy instructor at UC Irvine Law School and has previously testified as an expert witness concerning health care fraud.
Crowell & Moring is recognized internationally, with a comprehensive practice that spans across the United States, Europe, the MENA region, and Asia. The firm remains committed to providing inventive solutions for clients facing intricate regulatory, litigation, and transactional challenges, while also consistently engaging in pro bono initiatives and fostering the professional growth of its members.
