TOSHIMA STREET FES 2026: A Celebration of Urban Culture
The highly anticipated
TOSHIMA STREET FES 2026 is set to take place from
November 1 to 3 at Ikebukuro's
Nishi-Ikebukuro Park Global Ring and surrounding areas. Organized in collaboration with the Toshima Ward, this year's festival marks its fourth edition and aims to be an influential urban culture festival featuring various street culture elements including
music,
dance,
art,
urban sports, and
culinary experiences.
The festival has grown into a significant city-wide project supported by the MoveX Corporation along with numerous local businesses. Last year, the event drew an astounding
75,000 visitors over three days, transforming Ikebukuro into a vibrant playground. In addition to established attractions, this year's festival will introduce experiences tailored for beginners and children, ensuring that everyone can engage with urban sports. The festival will also highlight a
top-tier breakdance battle and various dance collaboration projects with local schools and organizations, showcasing the collective efforts of participating local businesses.
Crowdfunding for Future Cultural Development
In an initiative to foster local culture, a crowdfunding project utilizing Japan's
Hometown Tax System was launched on
July 15, 2026, to support the festival. The objective is to raise
2 million yen by September 15, enabling more children and youth in the region to engage with street culture and express themselves creatively.
Comments from the local authorities emphasize a commitment to cultivating a lasting cultural environment. A spokesperson stated, “Toshima Ward, known for its compact parks per resident, aims to create spaces where children and young people can freely play and discover new cultures and sports. We hope this crowdfunding will help create opportunities for our youth to step forward, fostering a supportive community culture.” The local consortium, consisting of civic, academic, and industrial representatives, drives the initiative to enhance Toshima Ward's cultural landscape.

The Purpose of Fundraising
Recognizing the potential of street culture as a driver of local development, Toshima Ward seeks to nurture artistic expressions like
dance,
rap, and
graffiti. Initiatives such as the rap, graffiti, and dance programs at
Nishi-Ikebukuro Junior High School, where students learn these skills for months, exemplify this mission. The goal is to cultivate opportunities for expression throughout the community, making street culture a permanent aspect of the local identity.
Donation Impact:
Funds raised will facilitate experiential programs for children and students, create platforms for young artists to showcase their talents, and foster collaborations between schools, communities, companies, and local governments to build an inclusive and vibrant cultural scene.
The crowdfunding campaign invites individuals from both inside and outside the district to participate and make a lasting impact on the cultural development of Toshima Ward.
Contributors will have their names acknowledged in activity reports and on associated websites, becoming part of a community committed to fostering a new culture in Toshima.
