AKC Canine Health Foundation Honors Canine Health Leaders for 2024



The AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF), a prominent non-profit organization focused on promoting the health of dogs, has celebrated the achievements of its 2024 leaders in canine health. This recognition reflects the dedication and hard work of individuals and organizations making significant advancements in canine health research and support.

2024 President's Award Winner: Dr. J. Charles and Lynn Garvin


The prestigious President's Award for 2024 has been bestowed upon Dr. J. Charles and his wife, Lynn Garvin. This award is given to those who have made extraordinary contributions to canine health. Dr. Garvin has served on the CHF Board since 2007 and was its chairman from 2016 until 2023. His efforts in promoting the Dalmatian breed and overall canine health are commendable. Together, the Garvins have bred over 90 champion Dalmatians, showcasing their commitment to excellence.

Lynn Garvin contributes significantly as an AKC Delegate for the Marion Ohio Kennel Club, while also dedicatedly supporting CHF's mission. This couple’s longstanding dedication to the health of dogs is an inspiration for many in the dog community.

Distinguished Research Partners of 2024: MB-F, Inc. and Golden Retriever Foundation


The Distinguished Research Partner Award has also been awarded to MB-F, Inc. and the Golden Retriever Foundation®. These organizations have shown immense support for canine health research, allowing CHF to flourish in its mission.

MB-F, Inc. has been a cornerstone supporter of CHF since its inception. Founded by Tom Crowe, who was part of the inaugural CHF board, the MB-F Star Dogs program has engaged hundreds of clubs, raising substantial funds for canine health research.

The Golden Retriever Foundation has been a steadfast partner with CHF, backing various research projects. Their recent advocacy led to critical investigations of emerging health issues in dogs, such as a respiratory disease that posed new challenges. Their commitment also contributed to establishing a canine sports medicine residency program that will ultimately benefit canine athletes in the future.

A Memorable Gala Evening


The awards were announced at the 'Canines & Cocktails' gala held on December 12, 2024, in Orlando, Florida. This annual event highlights the importance of collaboration among individuals and organizations in pursuing canine health advancements.

During the gala, Dr. Stephanie Montgomery, CHF's Chief Executive Officer, expressed gratitude: "We are honored to recognize the contributions of those who believe in the power of research to benefit our canine companions. Currently, CHF oversees a portfolio of 175 active research grants focusing on various canine health issues, such as cancer, tick-borne diseases, and heart conditions. This extensive effort aims to enhance understanding of canine illnesses, paving the way for prevention, treatment, and cures.
