Explore the Unique Artistic Vision of Mikio Hasui at YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA

Exhibition Overview

Starting August 23, 2025, YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA is hosting 'Portraits of the Seventeen Seas', an exhibition featuring the captivating works of photographer Mikio Hasui. This event offers a unique opportunity to witness Hasui’s artistic perspective on Japan's coastal nuclear power plants, articulated through 17 breathtaking seascapes.

Exhibition Highlights

Hasui’s exhibition showcases photographs inspired by his journey capturing all nuclear power plants in Japan, except for the ongoing construction at the Ohma nuclear power station in Aomori Prefecture. The displayed artworks purposely exclude the power plants from the frame, focusing solely on the sea's ever-changing expressions—waves, light, and reflections. Through this approach, Hasui subtly raises awareness regarding the 'invisible risks' associated with nuclear energy, urging viewers to reflect on the complex realities that pervade modern landscapes.

For those attending this thought-provoking exhibition, YUGEN Gallery will present an exclusive limited edition booklet. This 20-page publication contains insights from Hasui regarding the inspiration and nuances behind each seascape. Visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in the visual storytelling of his photography and take home the booklet to cherish the experience.

Special Publication: 'Peace Land'

In addition to the exhibition, attendees can also explore Hasui’s latest photo book, 'Peace Land', available in limited quantities. As the third installment of the Peace Land series, this book encapsulates Hasui's intricate perspectives and artistic journey. Don’t miss the chance to own this special edition and experience its contents firsthand.
