Sands China Unveils Enhanced Community Revitalization Program for Rua das Estalagens

Sands China recently held a press conference at The Londoner Macao to announce its Community Revitalization Programme 2.0, specifically targeting Rua das Estalagens. Building on the success of the first initiative, the new program consists of two integral components designed to stimulate the local economy and support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the area.

Supporting Local Businesses

In alignment with the Macao SAR government's efforts towards sustainable community development, this updated program reaffirms Sands China's commitment to fostering economic diversification in the region. The Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme 2.0 is a centerpiece of the revitalization initiative, setting out to recruit local SMEs aiming to establish businesses on Rua das Estalagens. This effort is focused on rejuvenating the economic activity within the district, which has seen a resurgence since the launch of the first program.

During the previous iteration, seven businesses were successfully launched from 128 applications, showcasing the appeal of the entrepreneurial opportunities available. Participants hailed from various sectors, including cultural retail and food & beverage, breathing new life into the street. The latest program aims to continue this momentum, encouraging more local entrepreneurs to present their business proposals, with financial support in the form of substantial subsidies based on their initial investments.

Emphasizing Innovation

Another significant aspect of the Community Revitalization Programme 2.0 is the Shop Rebranding Programme. This initiative is targeted at existing businesses on Rua das Estalagens, providing them with the resources and support needed to innovate and enhance their brand identity. Through this program, businesses can access funds to improve their branding, product packaging, and storefront designs, which are key elements in boosting their market presence.

Entrepreneurs looking to take advantage of these initiatives are required to invest a minimum amount, which varies through the programs. For instance, participants in the Shop Rebranding Programme are asked to self-invest a minimum of MOP 50,000 and can receive further financial support that is proportional to their investment.

Community Collaboration

At the press event, various representatives from businesses that benefitted from the first edition of the program shared their success stories, underlining how the Community Revitalization Programme positively impacted their operations and the broader community. Attendees included officials from the Macao SAR government who praised Sands China for their active role in supporting local SMEs, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between different sectors to drive community growth.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China, expressed optimism about the program's potential, highlighting the rich cultural value of Rua das Estalagens and its significance in Macao's heritage. He reaffirmed the commitment to not only aid in revitalizing the street economically but also to preserve its historical traits, ensuring both historical and modern aspects are harmoniously integrated.

Future Endeavors

Sands China is set to launch a series of supporting events, including training courses focused on business strategies and marketing, an open day for potential entrepreneurs, and a briefing session to provide valuable insights into the current programs. By actively encouraging participation and providing resources, Sands China hopes to propel entrepreneurial spirit and community engagement, ultimately enhancing the commercial landscape of Rua das Estalagens.

This commitment to community revitalization reflects Sands China’s overarching business philosophy: growing alongside local SMEs and contributing to the cultural and economic tapestry of Macao. With the Community Revitalization Programme 2.0, Sands China not only seeks to generate economic activity but also to foster community connections that will endure for years to come.
