Jimbocho Zine Fair at Hijiribashi Expo 2025
The Tokyo Cultural Resources Council is excited to announce the upcoming
Jimbocho Zine Fair in conjunction with the Hijiribashi Expo 2025. This event aims to foster a vibrant community by creating a space for individuals and indie publishers to connect and share their creations in the heart of Jimbocho, known for its rich literary traditions.
A Celebration of Independent Publishing
In a nod to Jimbocho’s historical significance as the home of numerous antiquarian and specialty bookstores, the
Jimbocho Zine Fair aims to introduce a wave of new publishing culture. Set to take place at the
Ochanomizu Solaris Conference Center on
May 5, 2025, the event will showcase a blend of established literary expression and fresh, personal narratives through zines – a medium that embodies DIY spirit and creativity.
The fair will feature both exhibition booths and a dedicated space for browsing that requires no prior application or registration—meaning anyone can drop by and explore the fascinating world of zines. Please note that any materials provided for display will not be returned.
Exploring New Narratives
Zines began as a way for music lovers and book enthusiasts to share their passions with like-minded individuals. This DIY culture nurtures free expression unhindered by the traditional frameworks of publishing, thus creating vibrant micro-communities around shared interests.
By integrating the soft, personalized medium of zines into Jimbocho’s hard literary landscape, we aim to enrich the publishing ecosystem with diverse voices and creative outputs. The fair welcomes not only professional editors and authors but all types of creators seeking a platform to connect with audiences and each other.
This festival is envisioned as a new conduit for people and literature, where every participant can contribute their unique voice to the dialogue surrounding independent publishing.
