Duke Energy Foundation Launches Grants for Energy Efficiency in South Carolina Homes
Duke Energy has made a significant move to promote energy efficiency across South Carolina by offering grants of up to $20,000 for qualified nonprofit organizations. These grants aim to support programs specifically designed to make homes ready for energy efficiency upgrades, which is crucial given the number of households unable to benefit from weatherization due to existing health and safety issues.
Many homes in South Carolina face a myriad of issues such as roof leaks, electrical hazards, mold infestations, or structural deficiencies that must be resolved prior to making any upgrades towards energy efficiency. The Duke Energy Foundation recognizes these challenges and aims to address them with targeted funding.
The primary goal of these microgrants is to enable households to participate in energy efficiency programs by addressing these pre-existing issues. Nonprofits that ensure these kinds of repairs can apply for this funding until October 30. It's important to note that only 501(c)(3) nonprofits currently engaged in health and safety home repair programs are eligible to apply.
Eligible uses of the grant funding include essential repairs such as roof replacements, electrical upgrades, plumbing fixes for leaks or clogs, structural stabilization, mold remediation, pest control, and more. However, it is essential to emphasize that funds cannot be used for direct weatherization or energy efficiency repairs.
According to Tim Pearson, Duke Energy’s South Carolina president, this initiative is in response to recent legislative movements recognizing the importance of energy efficiency. He points out that mitigating health concerns associated with homes enables better access to weatherization programs, ultimately leading to reduced energy bills and a more sustainable environment.
Beyond this grant initiative, Duke Energy is intensifying its efforts to enhance programs that provide financial incentives and eligibility for energy efficiency measures across both residential and business sectors. As part of this broader strategy, Duke Energy is boosting its offerings to help customers save money while contributing positively to energy conservation.
With a commitment to community support, the Duke Energy Foundation annually contributes over $30 million to address the needs of local communities where Duke Energy serves. This funding initiative is a crucial step in fortifying energy efficiency measures for homes that need it the most, highlighting the utility's dedication to energy sustainability and community welfare.
For nonprofits interested in applying for these grants, more information and application details are available on the Duke Energy website.
