A Dual Experience of Light and Perspective at YUGEN Gallery Fukuoka
From February 20 to March 8, 2026, the YUGEN Gallery Fukuoka will be showcasing an extraordinary exhibition featuring works by artists Orecho Honda and Hiroaki Kamizono. This exhibition, entitled
Luminous + Echo, promises to offer a fresh approach to art appreciation, focusing on how artworks can shift their expressions based on the viewer's position and perspective.
The exhibition’s concept revolves around the experience of “seeing” itself. Works on display will have the ability to transform in response to variations in distance and angles from which they are viewed, challenging the conventional static experience of art. Viewers will engage in a dynamic dialogue with the art as their movement within the space creates unique interpretations and impressions.
The Artists and Their Unique Approaches
Orecho Honda
Orecho Honda takes the lead in exploring “the reality constructed from perspective,” employing holographic materials to create both paintings and three-dimensional pieces. His artworks subtly shift in expression depending on the viewer's location, encapsulating the multiplicity of reality and emphasizing the significance of viewpoint awareness. Displaying a rainbow-like glow, Honda’s works serve as a reminder of the importance of consciously choosing one’s perspective in a multifaceted world. His accolades include participation in several prestigious art fairs and recognition through various awards, such as the
ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA.
Hiroaki Kamizono
In contrast, Hiroaki Kamizono focuses on the theme of “light,” his paintings reveal layers of color and illumination contingent upon the viewer's distance and angle. One of his notable works,
29/7/1990's portrait of Vincent van Gogh, is part of the collection at the Fondation Vincent van Gogh in Arles, France. This duality of experience in Kamizono’s pieces further enhances the visitor's engagement, as the visual elements evolve through individual interpretation.
A Shared Space of Creativity
The exhibition will showcase both Honda and Kamizono’s works in a shared space, allowing for an intersection of flat paintings and sculpture that visually shifts with each viewer's movement. This dialogue between forms distinctively highlights how varied perspectives can create new dimensions in understanding art.
Visitors are encouraged to stop in front of the works and experience these transformations, allowing themselves to be enveloped by the dynamic interplay of light, color, and perspective.
