Chinese Actress Showcases Hami's Cultural Heritage at Shanghai TV Festival

A Glimpse into Hami's Heritage and Artistry

At the recent 30th Shanghai TV Festival, the spotlight shone on Chinese actress Mukkadas Kurban as she walked the red carpet donning a stunning Uyghur embroidered gown from Hami, Xinjiang. This exquisite dress not only turned heads but also served as a vibrant showcase of Hami’s intangible cultural heritage, a storytelling piece transcending time and connecting the past with the present.

Crafted by Kader Rahman, a recognized intangible cultural inheritor of Xinjiang Uyghur embroidery, the gown featured intricate peony designs that seemed to bloom with life. Using traditional techniques, Rahman’s meticulous needlework brought to life three-dimensional peonies on a sheer fabric backdrop. To add a modern twist, young designer Shuting QIU from the SHUTING QIU brand combined these traditional embroideries with Suzhou silk techniques, creating a harmonious blend of old and new that wowed audiences.

Mukkadas Kurban expressed her joy at showcasing Hami’s rich cultural tapestry to the world, stating, "I felt immense pride carrying a millennium of Hami's cultural heritage with every step on that red carpet. Showcasing this priceless intangible heritage treasure to the world was profoundly moving."
