Sioux Honey Co-op and Hy-Vee Make Generous Honey Donation to Combat Hunger
Sioux Honey Co-op and Hy-Vee Make a Sweet Impact Against Hunger
In a remarkable display of community spirit, Sioux Honey Co-op and Hy-Vee grocery stores have collaborated to donate an astonishing 6,480 pounds of honey, benefiting Kansas City-area nonprofits, including the Harvesters Community Food Network and Starfish Project Foundation. This massive donation, made on September 24, 2025, is a testament to the power of teamwork in the fight against hunger and food insecurity in the region.
A Generous Gift for a Worthy Cause
The sheer scale of this donation is hard to fathom. Weighing more than twice the entire Kansas City Chiefs defensive roster, the honey delivered is set to provide nourishment and comfort to many families in need. Stephen Davis, president and CEO of Harvesters, expressed his gratitude for this extraordinary contribution, noting that honey is a highly desired pantry staple that offers both nutritional value and health benefits. With Sioux Honey and Hy-Vee's support, more families in the Kansas City area will have access to essential food items.
The delivery consisted of three pallets containing 540 cases of Sue Bee® honey, a trusted brand produced by Sioux Honey Co-op, alongside an additional 2,160 bottles sent to the Starfish Project. This brings the total donation to over 3 tons of honey, equivalent to the weight of approximately 29.4 million honeybees! Such generosity during National Honey Month emphasizes the timing of the event, aligning perfectly with the annual celebration of the honey harvest.
