Elbit Systems Awarded $260 Million Contract for Germany's A400M
Elbit Systems Ltd., a prominent player in the defense technology sector, announced on July 28, 2025, that it has secured a significant contract worth approximately $260 million from Airbus Defence and Space to supply its advanced J-MUSIC™ Directed Infrared Counter Measures (DIRCM) systems. This contract is aimed at enhancing the self-protection capabilities of the German Air Force's A400M transport aircraft.
The contract spans a period of six years and follows a procurement decision made by the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Operations of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw). This collaboration underscores the growing reliance on advanced defensive technologies in military operations, particularly in enhancing aircraft safety against evolving threats.
The J-MUSIC™ DIRCM is a part of Elbit's MUSIC™ family of airborne protection systems specifically designed to safeguard aircraft from infrared-guided missile attacks, especially those originating from man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS). This cutting-edge system integrates advanced laser technology along with high-performance imaging systems, enabling it to detect, track, and disrupt incoming missile threats autonomously, without requiring crew intervention.
One of the defining features of the J-MUSIC™ DIRCM system is its modular and scalable architecture, which facilitates seamless integration with various aircraft platforms and missile warning systems. Its compact design ensures minimal impact on the aircraft's performance and payload capacity, making it an ideal choice for modern military aircraft operations.
Elbit Systems has established a solid reputation for providing DIRCM solutions used in a wide array of military and commercial aircraft worldwide, serving clients that include governments and air forces from nations like Israel, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Brazil. Numerous leading aircraft manufacturers have also chosen Elbit’s DIRCM technology as their preferred solution for both new and retrofit projects.
Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, the President and CEO of Elbit Systems, expressed pride in the company's capabilities and reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing aerial defense solutions globally. He emphasized that this contract strengthens Elbit Systems' role as a leading provider of DIRCM technologies and highlighted the valuable collaboration with Airbus in contributing to the operational safety and readiness of Germany's A400M fleet.
Furthermore, Machlis pointed out that the trust placed in Elbit’s systems by numerous air forces worldwide underlines the effectiveness and reliability of their technologies in combat scenarios.
