EY Welcomes Sue Kench as Global Independent Non-Executive
On October 27, 2025, the EY organization announced the appointment of Sue Kench as its new global Independent Non-Executive (INE), effective November 1, 2025. Kench will be joining the ranks of the EY Global Governance Council (GGC), a pivotal body within the firm's governance framework.
Kench is no stranger to leadership. With nearly three decades of experience at King & Wood Mallesons, a top law firm in Asia, she brings an impressive background of senior roles, including Global Chief Executive from 2017 to December 2024. Prior to that, she served four years as Chief Executive Partner in Australia, earning accolades for her innovative leadership style. Her accomplishments include multiple recognitions, such as the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Award and being listed among the Australian Financial Review's Top 100 Women of Influence in 2018.
As a member of the GGC, Kench will play a crucial role in advising the EY Global Executive on significant issues related to policy-making, strategy, and matters of public interest. Her participation will help provide a broader spectrum of views, ensuring the organization remains committed to the stability of capital markets and upholding the quality of its audit and multi-disciplinary services.
Joining Kench on the GGC are experienced INEs Tonia Lovell and Duane M. DesParte, who possess extensive expertise in both public and private sectors. Lovell is based in Europe, while DesParte operates out of the US. Together, this trio will leverage their collective knowledge to enhance EY's culture of quality, integrity, and ethical governance across the global landscape.
Janet Truncale, EY Global Chair and CEO, remarked on Kench's appointment, stating, "Sue Kench brings exceptional leadership and governance experience that will be invaluable as EY continues to transform for the future and supports clients to adapt in an ever-evolving global landscape. Effective governance, transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making are cornerstones for the EY business. Sue's experience and integrity will complement the significant contributions of our incumbent INEs and greatly benefit the organization globally."
EY's commitment to enhancing its global presence is well exemplified by Kench's appointment. With a goal to build trust in capital markets and create value for society, clients, and the planet, EY leverages data, AI, and advanced technology to navigate the complexities of modern business environments. The organization offers a full spectrum of services, from assurance and consulting to tax strategy and transactions, assisting clients in crafting solutions for pressing issues today and for the future.
As EY forges ahead in its pursuit of a responsible and innovative working world, Kench's role will be integral not only in governance but also in shaping the future of the organization as it continues to embrace change and adaptation in today's fast-paced business world.
