On June 26, 2025, the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, popularly known as Sinopec (HKG: 0386), was honored at the 2nd Sino-European Corporate ESG Best Practice Conference held in Stuttgart, Germany. The company received the award for Best Scientific and Technological Innovation Practice, a distinction that reflects Sinopec's ongoing commitment to driving advancements in the energy and chemical sectors while addressing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges.

Sinopec’s winning submission, titled "Breakthrough in Depth, Climb to New Heights – Empowering the Energy and Chemical Industry with Technological Innovation," stood out among numerous entries, showcasing its exceptional dedication to integrating innovative practices in its operations.

The Aim of the Conference

The conference served as a platform to evaluate and reward the best ESG initiatives across six key areas: environmental protection, social responsibility, corporate governance, scientific and technological innovation, education and training. It aims to foster mutual understanding between Chinese and European businesses, facilitate bilateral economic relations, and demonstrate China's inclusive and confident approach to the global business community.

Sinopec's technological advancements are seen as pivotal in its journey towards achieving carbon neutrality and reducing carbon emissions. The company’s Deep Earth project has been compared to the 'Mount Everest underground,' reflecting its ambition to tap into ultra-deep oil and gas reserves while lighting the way for a greener future. Notably, the Fuling shale gas field has become the first in China to be commercially developed with hundreds of billions of cubic meters of reserves.

Sinopec has spearheaded Chinas' first megaton-scale Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) project and constructed the world’s first 100-kilometer CO₂ pipeline.
