Miyuki Kawahara Discusses Challenges in Aomori at Aomori Quest 2026

Engaging Perspectives from Aomori Quest 2026

Miyuki Kawahara, the CEO of Rice Platformer, recently participated in a significant talk session at the inaugural Aomori Quest 2026, organized by Aomori Prefecture. This experiential study tour brought together around 100 investors and entrepreneurs from outside the prefecture and approximately 50 local business representatives. The focus was on Aomori's strengths in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and energy, allowing participants to engage deeply with local challenges and envision the future during a comprehensive three-day program.

On August 5, the second day of the tour, the talk session titled "What Does Aomori Lack?—A Candid Discussion among Stakeholders in Industry and Community" was held. This session featured six prominent figures from Aomori's agricultural and urban development sectors. Using a sketchbook for a panel discussion, participants discussed pressing issues such as manpower shortages and youth outflow, prompting each speaker to reflect on how they might interact with Aomori from their unique perspectives.

Miyuki Kawahara candidly shared her experience of leaving Aomori's Hirosaki City to establish a business in Tokyo. She stated, "Starting my business has, in fact, increased my opportunities to return to Aomori. It’s not just a matter of staying or leaving; I want to explore various ways to connect with my hometown."

The Discussants

The session featured an impressive lineup:
  • - Toshiaki Yuri (Co-Representative, AOMORI Farm's Crew)
  • - Kazutake Yoshikawa (Director, RED APPLE Akashi Farm)
  • - Miyuki Kawahara (CEO, Rice Platformer)
  • - Kiyoto Mizuguchi (CEO, Tagboat)

Reflections on the Session

After participating in this important event, it was clear that Aomori Quest 2026 was not just about discussions but also included compelling activities. Besides the talk session, participants had opportunities to engage with the governor and investors, take part in the Aomori Nebuta Festival, and tour the nuclear fusion facility in Rokkasho Village. This 3-day program provided thoughtful insights into Aomori's industries and the challenges it faces while also allowing attendees to appreciate the depth of local culture and industry.

Moving forward, Rice Platformer is dedicated to promoting the culinary experiences centered around "onigiri" (rice balls) and aims to share the attractions of Aomori and other regions with audiences in Tokyo and beyond. We remain committed to bridging connections between rural and urban settings, and exploring innovative ways to enhance local products on a global stage.
