The Salvation Army and Elks Lodges Unite for Christmas Charity Campaign

Partnership for a Purpose

This Christmas season, The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division has teamed up with local Elks Lodges to launch a significant fundraising effort aimed at supporting the 2024 Red Kettle Campaign, an initiative vital for funding essential social programs for families and individuals in need. The collaboration reflects both organizations' commitment to community service, focusing on providing tangible help to those facing hardship.

An Innovative Approach to Fundraising

Throughout the holiday season, Elks Lodges will set up countertop red kettles in approximately 50 locations statewide, inviting patrons to contribute generously to the cause. On December 7th, Elks Lodge members will be actively engaging with the community as they volunteer to ring the bells at select kettles, a time-honored tradition that encourages donations and spreads holiday cheer. To foster a spirit of healthy competition, the lodge that raises the most money will be honored with the inaugural Golden Kettle Award, a traveling trophy that recognizes and celebrates their fundraising success.

Lt. Colonel Steven J. Merritt, divisional commander for The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "Elks Lodges and The Salvation Army share a commitment to strengthening our communities, offering hope, and serving those in need. By teaming up, we're better able to expand our reach and offer a hand up to those in dire need."

Community Engagement and Impact

The collaboration with Elks Lodges is just one facet of The Salvation Army's broader network of community partnerships. Various organizations, including Kiwanis, Lions Club, Rotary Club, and more, contribute their resources and time to bolster fundraising efforts. Each partnership is a testament to the power of community spirit and collective action aimed at alleviating the struggles faced by many this Christmas.

The proceeds generated from the 2024 Red Kettle Christmas Campaign will enable The Salvation Army to provide critical social services. These services encompass a variety of support systems, including:
  • - Feeding and sheltering those in need.
  • - Youth programs to enable empowerment and growth.
  • - Older adult programs that focus on wellness and engagement.
  • - Legal aid services offered through a free clinic.
  • - Emergency disaster services for immediate relief during crises.
  • - Drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs to support recovery.

Joining Hands for Change

Michael HD Bowman, state president of the Michigan Elks Association, emphasized the importance of community support, saying, "The Michigan Elks Association is dedicated to making a meaningful difference in our communities. By partnering with The Salvation Army, we can directly support our neighbors facing hardship this Christmas and throughout the year. Together, we can spread hope and love, ensuring that no one is forgotten during the holiday season."

Individuals wishing to help can contribute by making a sustaining monthly donation of $25, aiding in the ongoing support of local programs crucial to their communities. By fostering these partnerships and encouraging donor engagement, there is a collective commitment to ‘Do the Most Good’ for those in need across Michigan.
