BKPS Launches Major Electricity Project in Iraq
BKPS, a subsidiary of Karpowership, has taken a monumental step in enhancing Iraq's energy infrastructure by signing a pivotal contract with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity and the General Company for Electric Energy Production/Southern. This new electricity project aims to provide reliable, fast, and affordable power to strengthen the country's energy security.
Power Supply Overview
The initiative will deliver up to
590 megawatts of electricity through two of Karpowership's signature Powerships. Initially, electricity will be supplied for
71 days, a crucial period that will help stabilize the national grid and meet ongoing demand.
Zeynep Harezi Yılmaz, the commercial director of Karpowership, expressed her gratitude for the partnership with Iraq, stating, “We are honored to collaborate with Iraq to advance its energy resilience. This project is a significant step in bridging the electricity gap and aligns with our mission to provide fast, flexible, and reliable energy where it is needed most.”
The Powerships are expected to be deployed at the ports of Khor Al Zubair and Umm Qasr in Basra, with operations set to begin in
August 2025. Notably, these vessels are capable of multi-fuel operations and are fully self-sufficient, containing all necessary components for operation onboard. This capability ensures that they offer a cost-effective and quickly deployable solution, avoiding the lengthy construction timelines associated with traditional land-based power infrastructure.
Karpowership's Global Impact
This venture is not Karpowership's first foray into the floating energy solutions market. The company has established a proven track record, operating in
16 countries across
four continents. Their Powership technology delivers a practical and scalable solution for enhancing energy security and is adept at operating on multiple fuel types. This ability facilitates the provision of reliable energy to foster economic development, particularly in regions like Iraq, where the project will be executed through BKPS.
