Exploring SmartSens's Innovations in Automotive Vision Technologies at AutoSens Europe 2026

SmartSens Showcases Innovative Automotive Vision Sensors at AutoSens Europe 2026

SmartSens, a leader in advanced CMOS image sensors, recently presented its extensive portfolio of automotive-grade imaging solutions at AutoSens Europe 2026. The event took place from September 22 to 24 at La Farga de L'Hospitalet, Barcelona, marking a significant gathering in the automotive technology sector. This year, SmartSens highlighted its capabilities as a major player in the global CIS market, securing the third position in shipments in 2025.

During the exhibition, SmartSens unveiled a range of solutions tailored for various vehicle applications, which included forward-facing cameras, surround-view systems, driver monitoring systems (DMS), and occupant monitoring systems (OMS). These innovations are pivotal in advancing intelligent driving technologies worldwide.

One of the notable highlights was the live demonstration of integrated forward-facing camera module solutions powered by the M2 System on Chip (SoC) from their subsidiary, Flyingchip. This presentation garnered considerable attention from attendees, showcasing the advanced features of the 8.3MP automotive-grade sensor, SC860AT, as well as the SC233AT sensor designed for DMS. These solutions enable vehicles to maintain an acute awareness of their surroundings, ensuring safety and precision even in challenging lighting situations.

The OMS technology integrates the SC533AT sensor, a 5MP automotive-grade image sensor, with Flyingchip’s M1 SoC, providing exceptional image clarity with high sensitivity and low noise. This application supports functionalities such as detecting the presence of passengers, children, pets, and any objects left inside the vehicle, alongside capabilities for in-cabin photography and video conferencing.

Moreover, SmartSens introduced a 360-degree surround-view solution utilizing the 3MP SC360AT sensor. This innovative system enhances safety during parking and navigating narrow roads by counteracting extreme lighting conditions, such as backlighting or glare from oncoming headlights, ensuring drivers have a comprehensive view without overexposure, retaining necessary shadow details.

Adding to the excitement of the event, Toby Zou, co-general manager of SmartSens’ Automotive Business Group, delivered an insightful keynote at a technical forum. His address, titled "Empowering Intelligent Driving: Advancing High Dynamic Range and High Resolution in Automotive CIS," delved into the imaging performance crucial for the future of new energy vehicles and automated driving systems, specifically looking at Level 3 and Level 4 applications.

Zou discussed the importance of pixel architecture, High Dynamic Range (HDR), global-shutter technology, and integrating imaging with computing, providing insights on advancements in automotive vision across diverse scenarios. He elaborated on how SmartSens’s CIS portfolio acts as an integrated platform geared toward enhancing vehicle perception applications in the future.

With these cutting-edge technologies and strategic insights shared at AutoSens Europe 2026, SmartSens is reaffirming its commitment to providing flexible, reliable imaging solutions that meet the evolving needs of automakers and Tier 1 suppliers. Their comprehensive approach combines advanced image processing and innovative automotive sensing technologies, ensuring production-scale deployment for advanced driving systems, ultimately contributing to safer and smarter vehicles for the future.

As the automotive landscape continues to evolve, SmartSens stands at the forefront, ready to meet the demands of manufacturers and enhance the driving experience with state-of-the-art sensor technologies that pave the way for a new era of intelligent driving.
