Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Attends Inauguration of Innovation Oasis and AgriTech Academy

On April 24, 2025, Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Al Ain Region, attended the inauguration of Silal’s Innovation Oasis (iO) and the Advance AgriTech Academy in Al Ain, UAE. This ambitious project represents a significant step forward in fostering agricultural innovation, enhancing sustainability, and addressing the country's food security challenges in line with the National Food Security Strategy 2051.

Goals of the Innovation Oasis

The Innovation Oasis aims to serve as a specialized research and development center focusing on agricultural technology. It is designed to promote sustainable practices in the agricultural sector and strengthen food security efforts across the UAE. Focus on Developing Future Leaders

The Advancing AgriTech Academy, unveiled during the ceremony, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of AgriTech leaders in the UAE. This program offers specialized training and career development, collaborating with global research institutions to equip Emirati talent with the necessary skills to drive innovation in food and agriculture.

In addition to the academy, Sheikh Hazza witnessed the signing of a partnership agreement between Silal and the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). This agreement is set to enhance collaboration in agricultural research and innovation and includes five scholarships aimed at empowering students in the UAEU's Faculty of Agriculture, focusing on sustainable agriculture and food security.

Equipped with cutting-edge laboratories, growth chambers, and testing facilities—including greenhouses and open-field research plots—the Oasis provides an advanced platform for developing and testing various agri-tech solutions.

The key areas of focus at the iO include climate-resilient agricultural techniques to adapt to the extreme temperatures in the UAE, integrated water-energy-food solutions utilizing solar thermal desalination, precision agriculture based on IoT, and salinity-resistant crops.
