Sanyo Shokai's New Factory Transition to Towada City
Sanyo Shokai, a prominent company based in the Shinjuku area of Tokyo, has recently revealed plans to relocate its sewing factory, the "Sanyo Sewing Aomori Factory," to Towada City. This decision comes as part of the company’s medium-term business plan aimed at growth and efficiency, and the new factory is expected to begin operations in the first half of 2028.
The existing Aomori Factory, initially founded in 1969, specializes in overcoats and has spent the past 57 years honing its production techniques. This factory has become a hallmark of the company's domestic manufacturing capabilities. Apart from traditional coat production, the facility serves as a research and development hub, aiding in the development of new products such as "SANYOCOAT."
Despite its success, Sanyo Shokai has faced challenges, including the aging of its current building and the need to create a safer and more comfortable working environment for its employees. To tackle these issues while also enhancing product development capabilities and manufacturing efficiency, the company decided to proceed with the relocation and establishment of a new facility in Towada City. This move is poised to create a better working environment and bolster the recruitment and training of talent, ensuring that the cherished techniques developed over the years can be passed on to future generations.
The new factory in Towada City will span an area of approximately 11,411 square meters, a significant increase from the current location, which covers 10,137 square meters. The anticipated timeline includes commencement of construction in 2027, with the aim to be operational by mid-2028. The relocation is not just about moving; it signifies a strategic investment in improving the company's overall operational efficiency and product quality.
Established in Ibaraki Prefecture, the Sanyo Sewing Aomori Factory commenced operations in 1975. Over the years, it has become crucial for producing the company's primary product line: coats. The factory is recognized for its precision in stitching and finishing, especially in producing trench coats using high-quality gabardine fabric, which has garnered positive attention in fashion circles.
In 2015, the factory received the prestigious J∞QUALITY certification, celebrating the excellence of domestic production. To strengthen its brand presence and respond to a changing market, Sanyo Shokai launched a direct online store in 2019, offering factory-original coats.
The Sanyo Sewing Aomori Factory aims to maintain high production standards by emphasizing silhouette perfection, focusing on three key processes: pattern creation, sewing, and finishing. The expert team adeptly blends traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques to create coats that truly stand out. In recent years, the factory has also adapted to industry trends by incorporating new equipment and R&D capabilities, thereby diversifying its production beyond classic trench coats to include a wider range of outerwear, including down coats.
Sanyo Shokai remains committed to enhancing its product development capabilities and ensuring the quality of its manufacturing processes. As the company embarks on this next chapter with a new facility, the focus will remain on delivering products that meet the highest standards and resonate with consumers both in Japan and internationally.
