United Nations and Exponential Science Foundation Unveil Government Blockchain Academy for Public Sector Innovation

UNDP and Exponential Science Foundation Launch Government Blockchain Academy

In a groundbreaking collaboration, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has partnered with the Exponential Science Foundation to establish the Government Blockchain Academy. This innovative initiative is set to foster advancements in the public sector by harnessing the immense potential of blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies.

The Government Blockchain Academy seeks to empower governments around the world by addressing specific challenges through five fundamental pillars:
1. Inclusive Digital Finance: The Academy aims to enhance access to financial services via secure digital payment systems.
2. Transparent Governance: Efforts will be made to improve integrity and combat corruption through unforgeable digital records and transactions.
3. Supply Chain Integrity: Supporting traceability and accountability in public procurement and logistics will be a critical focus through decentralized verification.
4. Climate Resilience: Leveraging blockchain-based smart contracts and utilizing digital tokens will facilitate transparent financing for climate action, including tracking carbon credits.
5. Digital Identity Solutions: Providing everyone with reliable and verifiable digital identity credentials is essential to improve access to services.

The Academy plans to officially launch its first national programs in 2026, with preparatory work, program design, and stakeholder engagement commencing in 2025. Key details will be unveiled during the TOKEN2049 event in Singapore on October 1-2, 2025. This official announcement will feature a roundtable discussion, gathering protocol developers and infrastructure providers to rally support for this global educational initiative.

Irena Cerovic, UNDP’s Innovation Team Leader for Europe and Central Asia, stated, “At UNDP, we are committed to institutional innovation, creating spaces for governments to explore and test cutting-edge technologies. The Government Blockchain Academy builds on this ethos by providing countries with pathways to tackle complex development challenges in new ways, transitioning from experimentation to implementation in order to enhance transparency, inclusion, and resilience.”

Paolo Tasca, Executive Chairman of Exponential Science, added, “This is not just an educational initiative; it is a collaborative blueprint for public innovation. By bringing together various partners within a unique framework, we can ensure that governments have the tools and talent to evolve into the next generation of digital transformation.”

The Government Blockchain Academy will offer in-person workshops, online modules, and leadership forums tailored to the needs of the public sector and local communities. Participating government officials will gain access to curated resources, customized incubation experiences, expert consultations, and guidance throughout their digital learning journey.

Each government team will receive structured support—from identifying use cases and defining needs to collaborating with Academy experts and industry partners. This guidance will culminate in co-design workshops aimed at aligning decision-makers and technical stakeholders to collaboratively create scalable and impactful blockchain initiatives that address national priorities.

Functioning as a global hub, the Government Blockchain Academy will be a venue for dialogue, experimentation, and learning, enabling officials to engage with pioneering technologies while shaping policies that reflect digital inclusion, security, and sovereignty.
