Seasats Secures $89 Million Contract from U.S. Navy
Seasats, a prominent player in the unmanned surface vehicle (USV) arena, has been awarded an impressive $89 million SBIR Phase 3 IDIQ contract from the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic. This contract is aimed at bolstering the Marine Corps' USV initiatives and signifies a substantial step forward in the company's journey toward enhancing maritime autonomy.
This remarkable achievement follows a series of significant operational milestones that have showcased Seasats' commitment to advancing persistent maritime solutions. Recently, one of its USVs successfully completed a remarkable autonomous crossing of over 7,500 miles in the Pacific Ocean, setting a new standard for endurance in this class of vessels.
Moreover, during the NATO BALTOPS 2025 exercises, multiple Seasats Lightfish units were deployed, receiving high praise from Commander of Task Force 66. The task force conducted extensive trials to validate the performance and operational capabilities of the Lightfish assets, showcasing their readiness for deployment in prolonged missions.
The Lightfish system's compact design, exceptional endurance, and cost-efficiency have made it an attractive option not only for military applications but also in commercial sectors. In Argentina, these systems are currently enhancing maritime security efforts, while in Australia, they serve as integral components of a new global scientific surface network, emphasizing their versatility and applicability across various environments.
Mike Flanigan, CEO of Seasats, highlighted the importance of this Phase III IDIQ contract, stating, "This underscores Seasats' reliability and dependability as a trusted partner in addressing national security challenges. Our systems have demonstrated their capabilities over vast oceans, in NATO operations, and within Navy frameworks. This contract enables us to quickly deploy fleets of Seasats' vessels, enhancing maritime awareness and strengthening deterrence for U.S. forces and allies."
The ongoing expansion of Seasats' customer base across defense, scientific research, and commercial sectors speaks volumes about the company’s trajectory. Consistently introducing new capabilities based on its proven technologies further solidifies Seasats' role in ushering in the next generation of persistent maritime infrastructure.
