Ascent Aviation and IAI Mark Milestone in Boeing 777-300ERSF Program in Arizona

Ascent Aviation Services and Israel Aerospace Industries Take Major Step Forward

Marana, Arizona, recently witnessed a significant development in the aviation industry as Ascent Aviation Services partnered with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to advance their Boeing 777-300ERSF conversion program. Following the successful completion of two innovative widebody hangars at Ascent's Pinal Air Park facility, the site is set to start accepting Boeing 777-300ER aircraft for transition into freight carriers beginning in the third quarter of 2026.

The newly constructed 90,000-square-foot hangars, specifically designed to accommodate the IAI's Boeing conversion operations, mark a key investment of $70 million. This expansion enhances Ascent's maintenance and modification capabilities for large aircraft by an impressive 200%, establishing Arizona as a key hub for next-generation freighter conversions.

In an official statement, CEO David Querio of Ascent Aviation Services expressed his pride in this latest development, underscoring the significance of the new hangars for both the company and the broader aviation sector in Arizona. He said, “This partnership with IAI illustrates our dedication to innovation and operational excellence in global air cargo.” The collaboration aims to meet rising global demands for long-haul cargo transport while revitalizing retired passenger models of the Boeing 777-300ER through advanced conversion technologies developed by IAI.

IAI's Boeing 777-300ERSF program is recognized for its unique approach to converting passenger planes into cargo haulers, thereby enhancing operational efficiency for cargo operators in the market. The Marana facility is positioned to cater to increased global demand for widebody freighters.

“We are excited to fortify our relationship with Ascent Aviation Services in the global expansion of the Boeing 777-300ERSF program,” commented Yaacov Berkovitz, Executive VP General Manager of IAI’s Aviation Group. The newly finished hangars and the introduction of the first aircraft signify a pivotal milestone for both organizations. This joint initiative is set to foster a first-rate conversion operation, pivotal for the international cargo market's future growth.

The expansion of the facility is expected to create numerous high-skill aviation jobs in Southern Arizona, further solidifying Marana's developing status as an aerospace industry center. The first Boeing 777-300ER aircraft is anticipated to arrive for conversion in the third quarter of 2026 as part of IAI’s Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) program.
