Upcoming Event: ACN Ramses the Great Exhibition Extended
The ACN Ramses the Great Exhibition, held at the Ramses Museum at CREVIA BASE Tokyo, has announced an extension due to its overwhelming popularity. Initially set for an earlier close, it will now run until January 4, 2026. This exhibition features approximately 180 treasures from ancient Egypt, commemorating Ramses II, often referred to as the greatest pharaoh in Egyptian history.
Supported by the Egyptian government, this is one of the largest exhibitions of its kind, and it has previously attracted more than 2 million visitors across five major cities worldwide. Tokyo marks its sixth stop and its first in Asia. Since opening, over 250,000 guests have visited, spurring the decision for an extended run, especially with many wanting to visit over the year-end holidays. Don’t miss this rare chance to discover the legacy of Ramses II and experience treasures from ancient Egyptian civilization, including several items publicly displayed in Japan for the first time.

Grand Egyptian Museum Opening Soon
In addition to the exhibition, Japan is also committed to supporting the Grand Egyptian Museum, set to open on November 1, 2025, near Cairo. This museum will be one of the largest archaeological museums worldwide, dedicated to ancient Egyptian civilization. Japan has provided both financial and technical support for its establishment, which is poised to draw greater attention to Egyptian history globally.
Who Was Ramses II?
Ramses II was known for ruling during the New Kingdom period of Egypt, reigning for a remarkable 67 years. He is renowned for his unparalleled power, wealth, and contribution to peace with neighboring nations. He spearheaded the construction of many grand edifices, including magnificent monuments, and fathered over 100 children.
Highlight Exhibit: Ramses II's Sarcophagus on Display
One of the main attractions of the exhibition is the sarcophagus of Ramses II, fashioned from cedar wood. It is extremely rare for the sarcophagus to be displayed in its entirety, featuring both the body and lid. Offered through special cooperation with the Egyptian government, this magnificent artifact was last displayed outside Egypt 47 years ago during the Paris exhibition in 2023. Notably, this exhibition also features other artifacts that are being shown internationally for the first time.
Immersive VR Experience
The exhibition offers immersive experiences, including state-of-the-art VR technology. Visitors can take a virtual tour of the famed Abu Simbel temples and Queen Nefertari's tomb. This VR experience narrates the journey towards the afterlife, guided by Nefertari as she recounts how Ramses II transformed Egypt as a general, architect, and protector of ancient Egyptian religion. Visitors will uniquely navigate through this landscape in a motion chair, ultimately encountering Ramses II himself.
Note: The VR experiences require an additional fee and are recommended to be booked in advance.
