UPDATER Launches TADORi CHAiN to Transform Circular Economy into Value

Transforming Circular Economy into Value with TADORi CHAiN

UPDATER Inc., led by CEO Eiji Oishi, has recently unveiled its latest initiative, TADORi CHAiN, as part of its Circular Traceability effort. Based in Setagaya, Tokyo, UPDATER aims to tackle social challenges through innovative business practices that effectively record and verify how products are manufactured and utilized digitally. Unlike traditional one-directional tracing, which only tracks products from production to sale, UPDATER's approach ensures that the product’s history—how it was used, repaired, and passed on—continues even after it reaches the consumer. This is achieved by treating potentially reusable products not just as waste but as valuable resources incorporated into a sustainable circular economy.

The launch of TADORi CHAiN comes at a pivotal time. In Europe, from July 2026 overproduction and leftover products, especially in the clothing and footwear sector, will be prohibited, significantly impacting global production practices. Similarly, the Japanese market for secondhand items has been expanding for 15 consecutive years, reaching nearly 3.3 trillion yen. In response to this growing trend, the Japanese government outlines its goal of expanding the circular economy market to 80 trillion yen by 2030. This shift signifies a clear demand for solutions that prioritize the use of surface resources like already existing clothing rather than extracting subsurface resources.

TADORi CHAiN is a sophisticated digital solution that documents the entire lifecycle of a product, covering how it was created and with what intent. The service will be live starting today, September 4th, and will officially launch at the flagship YOKE Aoyama Store in October 2024, following successful trials with multiple brands. This service features blockchain technology that securely logs product histories, making tampering nearly impossible, and providing consumers easy access to their product's verification information.

As the circular economy becomes more vital, UPDATER's 60 Billion Visible Transactions Project aims to validate and visualize over 6 billion transactions by 2031, further reinforcing the transparency and accountability of supply chains. Key aspects of TADORi CHAiN include:

1. End-to-end traceability: Recording every phase of a product's life from material sourcing to its future usability, thereby ensuring thorough management of the product history.
2. Authenticity verification: Providing consumers assurance that they possess legitimate products, which is becoming increasingly essential, especially amidst the growing prevalence of counterfeit goods.
3. Environmental impact visibility: Assessing the GHG emissions of each product unit, allowing businesses to understand their ecological footprint more accurately.
4. Compliance with European regulations: With the DPP (Digital Product Passport) being adopted in Europe, TADORi CHAiN simplifies the process for brands to comply with necessary regulations related to product ethics and sustainability.

As UPDATER pivots towards facilitating circular business models, the company recognizes that environmental sustainability is not merely a cost but an opportunity for generating revenue. Their objective is to align social responsibility with economic viability, thus contributing to CSV (Creating Shared Value) practices.

With TADORi CHAiN at the forefront, the integration of traceable practices not only supports businesses but enhances the consumer experience, ensuring that products can be used confidently and sustainably. This aligns with the Japanese tradition of valuing an item's history and the maker's intent, akin to historical practices like the **
