EliTe Solar Commences Construction of Major 5GW Solar Plant in Egypt

EliTe Solar Breaks Ground for a 5GW Solar Manufacturing Center in Egypt

On December 16, 2024, EliTe Solar, a premier manufacturer of photovoltaic systems based in Singapore, took a significant step in its global expansion strategy by breaking ground for a substantial solar production facility in Egypt. Located in the TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, this initiative marks an important milestone in the development of the solar industry within the region.

The new plant is set to have a remarkable capacity of 5GW, spread across an expansive area of 78,000 square meters. It is projected to commence production by September 2025, with plans to manufacture solar cells producing 2GW and solar modules generating 3GW.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Waleid Gamal Eldien, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, Ouyang Xiaoming, First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, Li Daixin, Chairman of China-Africa TEDA Investment Co. Ltd, and Liu Jingqi, Chairman of EliTe Solar. The attendees engaged in discussions regarding the project's future development prospects.

Waleid Gamal Eldien remarked, “The initiation of this project is a crucial milestone in developing the Egyptian solar industry. By introducing advanced solar technologies and optimizing local supply chains, this initiative will elevate overall production standards in Egypt. EliTe Solar’s innovative approach and management expertise will further reinforce our global position within the solar sector.”

This significant project brings cutting-edge energy production technologies to Egypt, aims to boost the solar industry’s local supply chain, and enhances the country’s export capacities as well as its global influence in the solar market. It will reinvigorate the local economy and play a vital role in helping Egypt meet its target of achieving a 42% share of renewable energy by 2030.

Li Daixin stated, “Not only does this project strengthen Egypt’s solar industry, but it also positions the country as a manufacturing hub for solar energy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). It enhances supply chain capabilities while contributing significantly to global renewable energy growth.”

With recent electricity shortages and outages in Egypt highlighting the urgent need for a diversified energy architecture to ensure energy independence, this initiative is timely, offering sustainable solutions through renewable energy sources. Upon completion, the facility is expected to generate 500 million kWh of electricity annually, effectively saving about 307 million tons of standard coal and offsetting carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to planting 84 million trees.

Liu Jingqi, Chairman of EliTe Solar, expressed, “The commencement of our project in Egypt not only showcases our proficiency in technological innovation and industry integration but also underscores EliTe Solar’s commitment to spearheading the global transition to renewable energy. Together with our partners, we are paving the way towards a greener future and setting new benchmarks in the global energy transition.”

Since its establishment in 2005, EliTe Solar has solidified its international industrial presence by setting up multiple manufacturing facilities in countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, and now Egypt. Looking forward, the company aims to drive the energy transition further by exporting high-quality technologies, thus contributing to sustainable global development.

With a solid track record delivering over 10 GW of solar modules worldwide, EliTe Solar continues to provide intelligent solar solutions tailored for utilities, commercial and industrial clients, as well as residential consumers globally. The company focuses on optimizing the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) to maximize value while minimizing risk, offering its customers a competitive edge in the global market. Through vertical integration in the photovoltaic sector, EliTe Solar has established a robust business model, encompassing everything from silicon wafers to cells and modules.
