As the popularity of Korean cuisine continues to thrive in Japan, a recent survey conducted by Monogatari Corporation reveals the top favorite Korean dishes among young women aged 10 to early 30s. This survey was part of the Korean Fair hosted by Yakiniku King, a well-known barbecue restaurant chain.
Insights from the Survey
Running from August 12 to 13, 2025, the survey received responses from 1,013 participants who identified as enthusiasts of Korean cuisine. The results indicated a clear winner:
Kimpap, the Korean-style seaweed rice roll, topped the list with a whopping 54.9% preference. Following closely were
Cheese Balls, a popular snack made by engulfing gooey cheese in a doughy exterior and deep-frying it (52.9%), and
Yangnyeom Chicken, a Korean fried chicken dish flavored with gochujang, garlic, and other spices (49.0%).
What’s striking about these selections is their alignment with current culinary trends that favor not only taste but also visual appeal, especially on social media platforms. Young diners today are drawn to dishes that provide an Instagram-worthy experience.

When probing why respondents love Korean cuisine, the most frequently cited reason was simply, **
