SEMBA Launches Innovative BIM Education Service to Enhance Interior Display Industry

SEMBA Launches Groundbreaking BIM Education Service

In a significant move to enhance the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) within the interior display industry, SEMBA Co., Ltd., headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has announced the launch of the SEMBA BIM BUSINESS SCHOOL. This program is designed to extend their expertise from internal training to external educational services, aiming to promote the use of BIM across the sector.

Background of the Initiative

The launch follows a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with Autodesk, a global leader in the BIM space, to establish a Common Data Environment (CDE) that aims to streamline and reform work processes within the industry. Recently, the use of BIM has been gaining traction in the interior display sector for improved information sharing and operational efficiency during both design and construction phases. However, the unique workflows and project characteristics of this industry mean that there is a shortage of professionals capable of utilizing BIM effectively.

Over the past six years, SEMBA has focused on developing a robust BIM environment using Autodesk Revit® and Autodesk Forma®. As a result, over 76% of their design staff have undergone BIM training, leading to the implementation of BIM in approximately 200 projects annually, which include a diverse range of spaces such as large commercial facilities, offices, clinics, and public spaces.

By formalizing their educational initiatives and sharing accumulated knowledge with the broader industry, SEMBA aims to accelerate the adoption of BIM within the interior display sector.

Educational Service Features

1. Comprehensive Training on Autodesk Revit®

The BIM school will provide systematic training on the fundamental operations of Autodesk Revit®, using unique teaching materials grounded in real-world practices across various environments, such as commercial facilities, offices, healthcare settings, and public spaces. Additionally, SEMBA will offer review sessions to ensure skills retention among trainees.

2. Expert Support from Industry Specialists

The core training will be conducted by instructors who are not only knowledgeable in Autodesk Revit® but also include specialists from SEMBA who have practical experience in BIM implementation. This dual-instruction approach will allow trainees to receive immediate support for their individual challenges during the training sessions.

3. Networking Opportunities Post-Training

To foster ongoing connections, SEMBA will facilitate networking opportunities for participants to share practical insights about BIM. This initiative aims to create a community of like-minded professionals who collaborate to enhance BIM adoption across the industry, breaking down barriers between individual companies.

Future Goals

In their efforts to expand BIM education, SEMBA hopes to address the critical challenge of developing talent capable of leveraging BIM in practical settings. By sharing their internal training resources with the wider industry, they aspire to foster a collective advancement in productivity and problem-solving across the interior display sector.

Yusuke Okura, Director of the Strategic Planning Department at SEMBA BIM CONNECT, emphasized, “Our goal is to accelerate BIM promotion within various businesses which, in turn, can enhance productivity and resolve key challenges in our industry.”
