HIDA Showcases Artisan Craftsmanship at Orgatec Tokyo 2026
HIDA, the furniture brand known for its rich heritage in woodworking, is all set to participate in the upcoming Orgatec Tokyo 2026 scheduled from June 2 to 4 at Tokyo Big Sight. Under the leadership of CEO Akiko Okada, HIDA will take the spotlight with an engaging exhibit that explores the theme, "Creating Universal Spaces through Artisanal Craftsmanship."
Concept and Design
The exhibition will feature two distinct zones crafted with Japanese domestic timber—the lounge area designed by renowned designer Noriyuki Kumano featuring the "kei" series and a cafe area designed to encourage communal dining experiences. The design direction and spatial aesthetics will once again be conceptualized by the esteemed design studio FLOOAT. In a world increasingly dominated by digital communication, HIDA aims to rekindle our senses by showcasing the tactile richness of wood and the passage of time, emphasizing the new potential of wooden furniture in office environments.
The Lounge Area
The semi-closed lounge area will introduce the "kei" series for the first time at Orgatec Tokyo. Designed using Japanese cedar, the furniture features unique grain patterns and knots that tell the story of time. As much of our work now relies on visual-centric digital devices, there’s a growing desire for sensory experiences that wooden materials provide. The "kei" series embraces the imperfections of natural wood, meeting the need for a tactile experience in office spaces. This calm and modest lounge setting seeks to evoke a deep impression while highlighting the organic presence of wood.
Culinary Experience at the Cafe
Beyond furniture and spatial design, HIDA will allow attendees to experience its philosophy through a dedicated cafe. The cafe will feature culinary demonstrations using "Sugiyama Water"—a biostimulant material developed from branches trimmed during tree maintenance. Visitors will enjoy tasting finger foods made with seasonal ingredients, served on small plates crafted from excess wood materials. This interactive dining experience not only brings people together but also showcases HIDA’s commitment to sustainability in both design and food.
The Collaborative Spirit of HIDA and FLOOAT
This year’s collaboration marks the third consecutive year of partnership between HIDA and FLOOAT at Orgatec. By intertwining craftsmanship with thoughtful space design, FLOOAT aims to express the values deeply embedded within HIDA's woodworking techniques. The proposed concept, "Creating Universal Spaces through Artisanal Craftsmanship," seeks to highlight the evolving value of furniture through use, fostering a rich and immersive atmosphere throughout the experience.
Moreover, the booth will incorporate an innovative modular system designed by HIDA and FLOOAT that can be reconfigured based on the environment or the specific needs of an event. This approach not only promotes sustainability but also showcases the flexibility and adaptability of modern exhibition designs, creating a lasting impact.
